Anthony Taglianetti drove from Viriginia to Clymer, New York, last September with the intent to kill Keith Reed Jr. because he found an e-mail exchange between Reed and his wife. That was part of the opening statement from District Attorney David Foley in Taglianetti’s murder trial that started this morning. Foley also said investigators discovered a handgun wrapped in that e-mail that Taglianetti had printed out. It had Taglianetti’s DNA and Reed’s blood on it. Mary Taglianetti and her husband were separated when she had a brief relationship with Reed. They hadn’t had contact with each for two years, until she friended him on Facebook last year. The e-mail exchange happened about a month before the murder. Defense attorney Ned Barone told the jury Taglianetti did not kill Reed and that Mary Taglianetti is a liar and a master manipulator. After three weeks of jury selection in the Anthony Taglianetti murder trial only six people have been chosen, and Taglianetti’s lawyer says the trial should be moved to another county. Just two weeks ago a state appellate judge rejected a motion to have the trial moved, but now Chautauqua County public defender Ned Barone has filed a motion with the appellate division of the State Supreme Court. A date to hear the motion hasn’t been set yet. Taglianetti is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Clymer School Superintendent Keith Reed Jr. in September of last year. There’s a twist in the murder trial for Anthony Taglianetti. Jury selection had been scheduled to start this morning, but that’s been moved to Thursday because the Chautauqua County Public Defender has found out about new information that he says is crucial to the case. Ned Barone says he learned that the new information was given to the district attorney’s office in March or April, but not to the public defender’s office. He didn’t elaborate on that information. A hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday afternoon to decide what to do about the information.
