The Office of Career Services, department of nursing and Student Nurse Organization will hold a Health Career Job Fair next week on campus. Representatives of 15 organizations will be available from 10:30 a.m. to noon Monday, Feb. 10, in the Mukaiyama University Room of the Frame-Westerberg Commons. The fair is open to the public. Attendees should bring copies of their resume and dress in business attire. Attendees can learn about summer and full-time employment, as well as internship and volunteer opportunities. A juvenile playing with a gun prompted a lockdown at St. Marys schools and Elk Regional Health Center on Wednesday. St. Marys Police say the child was playing with an Airsoft gun while waiting for transportation to school at 8:20 a.m. Police would like to thank everyone for their patience, understanding and information that led to the resolution of the case. St. Marys schools and Elk Regional Health Center were on lockdown this morning after police got a report of a suspicious person who might have a gun. Police got the call at 8:20 this morning saying the person was near Kerner Avenue and Louis Street. Area law enforcement officials conducted an investigation while the schools and hospital were on lockdown. St. Marys City, Ridgway and Johnsonburg police, along with Elk County Sheriff’s deputies were involved in the search. City police are continuing their investigation. The local supply of Type O blood continues to fall, now dropping to the 25% level. Extremely heavy local usage continued this week, while donations have remained flat. The blood supply was 400 pints higher last year at this time. Regional usage has increased over the past several months. The blood bank expects the problem to worsen as the holidays approach; donors will get busier and busier and fewer will make time to give blood. The Community Blood Bank is taking donors on Saturday at 24 Davis Street, Union Square in Bradford from 9-1pm. No appointment is needed to save a life. There is a blood drive in St Mary's at Elk Regional Health Center on Tuesday December 6th from 10am to 4pm. Erie, PA- In just two months, significant progress has been made in providing greater access to advanced medical care to four regional hospitals thanks to a federal grant awarded to Hamot Medical Center in late summer. Then Representative Kathy Dahlkemper presented Hamot with the $99,000 Health and Human Services grant in mid-September, a grant for which Hamot applied with Charles Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport, Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys, Kane Community Hospital in Kane and Bradford Regional Medical Center in Bradford. The grant was requested specifically to help facilitate transportation of critically ill patients. The cache of equipment was ordered and was delivered Friday, January 21st to each of the rural hospital, where it will be permanently located. The equipment includes an Alaris IV pump and tubing, CPAP and ventilators for EMS which feature bipap. Two women and a baby suffered major injuries in an accident Thursday afternoon on Route 120 in Shippen Township. State police say a car driven by 37-year-old Saira Bano of Emporium went out of control on the snow-covered road, spun around and traveled into the path of a car driven by 33-year-old Bonnie Halquist of St. Marys. A two-year-old boy in Bano's car also suffered major injuries. All three were taken to Elk Regional Health Center.

The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford has named 10 new members to its Advisory Board and reappointed 15 members. Newly elected to the board are Gregory P. Bauer, JoAnne Ryan, Stacy Sorokes Wallace, Max Brady, Timothy J. Asinger, Stephen P. Grillo, Douglas E. Kuntz, Julie A. Marasco, James M. McDonough and John W. Seltzer. Christopher Luke, president of the Pitt-Bradford Alumni Association, was appointed an ex officio member of the board. All of the appointments were made by University of Pittsburgh Chancellor Mark Nordenberg upon recommendation by Dr. Livingston Alexander, president of Pitt-Bradford. Asinger is vice president of Kessel Construction Inc. in Bradford. His early professional background was spent in the food industry, and he became involved with Kessel in 1997 in Erie. He has been with the Bradford corporate office since 2007 and is very involved in the community with social, cultural, civic and fundraising efforts.
