The mother of a 1-year-old will be charged with manslaughter after the little girl’s death last month. Mila Whipple died in Women and Children’s Hospital in Buffalo two days after being taken there by Mercy Flight. Hospital staff told police the baby was probably abused. Salamanca Police arrested Mila's mother 24-year-old Leslie Finch this afternoon. Finch is facing charges of second-degree manslaughter, first-degree reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child. She's in Cattaraugus County Jail on $100,000 bail. Two people were found with heroin Friday night in the Save A Lot parking lot in Salamanca. The Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force says they searched a car that 25-year-old Jeremy Foster of Salamanca was a passenger in and learned he had a quantity of heroin. He was wanted for selling drugs in December in the city. Also during the search, they found that 31-year-old Joshua Turybury of Little Valley had heroin. A third person was released from the police department for medical reasons. Police say the investigating is continuing and more arrests are pending. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Four people appeared in Cattaraugus County Court on burglary charges in separate cases. 25-year-old Caitlyn Sarber of Allegany attempted to break into a Town of Allegany building on September 27. 42-year-old Jonathan Perrington of Olean attempted to break into an Olean building on October 6. 24-year-old Jay Miller of Olean attempted to break into an Olean building on September 16, 22-year-old Ally Wanatee broke into a Town of Salamanca house on May 4, 2014, and did $1,500 worth of damage. Heroin, a weapon and marijuana were found during a raid of a Salamanca house. The Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force found the drugs and a .40-caliber Glock 27 handgun at 94 Jefferson Street, where they arrested 19-year-old Thomas Oldshield. Police say the serial number of the gun had been removed. They also found, and removed, ammunition for the gun. They also found counterfeit money. A woman accused of selling heroin, oxycodone, hydrocodone and Fentanyl to agents with the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force is facing a number of charges. 38-year-old Nealie Lindsler-Crowley of Buffalo was arrested over the weekend in Salamanca in connection to incidents from January to August of last year. Lindsler-Crowley is in Cattaraugus County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Eddie Money and Jeff Foxworthy will be at the Seneca Allegany Events Center in March. Money, whose hits include “Baby Hold On,” “Two Tickets to Paradise” and “Think I’m in Love” will perform at 7 p.m. March 6. Foxworthy, known for his redneck humor and as host of the television show "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader," takes the stage March 28 at 7 p.m. Tickets for both shows go on sale at noon Friday. Two Salamanca residents are in Cattaraugus County Jail for selling drugs to undercover agents with the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force in Randolph. 21-year-old Michael Doner is accused of selling heroin. 37-year-old Mary Mosley is accused of selling cocaine. They are each charged with felony counts of criminal possession of and criminal sale of a controlled substance. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

A man is facing charges for stealing a car in Buffalo and then crashing it in Cattaraugus County. Sheriff’s deputies say 32-year-old Richard Presano stole the vehicle from a woman in Buffalo and then drove it off Route 353 in New Albion while he was on his way to Salamanca early Saturday morning. Presano was sent to jail in lieu of $2,500 bail. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Several people pleaded guilty to drug charges in Cattaraugus County Court this week. Frank Chase of Olean and Joshua Small of Buffalo had heroin; Laurie Lawall and Brad Smith, both of Olean, and Katie Stebbins of Salamanca, all had prescription pills; Pierre Morgan of Buffalo had cocaine; Samantha Perkins of Cuba had crack cocaine. Stebbins and Morgan are scheduled for sentencing on February 2; the rest are scheduled for January 12. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Investigators have identified the woman who died in a house fire Sunday in Salamanca. 83-year-old Mary Dolecki was found that afternoon in her home that had flames and heavy smoke coming it from it when firefighters arrived. She was taken to Olean General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Cattaraugus County investigators are still trying to figure what caused the fire. Governor Tom Corbett and his Democratic challenger Tom Wolf are putting in a full day of campaigning the day before tomorrow’s election. Corbett will be attending rallies in every media market in the state today, ending in his hometown of Pittsburgh. Wolf will also be in Pittsburgh, and also Lancaster. He spent the weekend in southeastern Pennsylvania, and was joined by President Barack Obama at a rally at Temple University in Philadelphia. Corbett’s running mate is current lieutenant governor Jim Cawley. Wolf’s running mate is current state Senator Mike Stack of Philadelphia. In New York, Governor Andrew Cuomo is being challenged by Rob Astorino. In race for the Twin Tiers’ representatives in Washington – the incumbent Republican men in both Pennsylvania and New York are up against Democratic women. Several people appeared in Cattaraugus County Court on drugs charges, including a couple of people already in jail on similar charges. 33-year-old Demario Watkins of Buffalo, who is currently in jail, pleaded guilty to selling a controlled substance on December 19 in Salamanca. 24-year-old Bryant Battle of Olean, who is also in jail, sold a narcotic drug on April 18 in Olean. They are both scheduled for sentencing on January 5. A heroin dealer has been sentenced to 2 years in state prison. 29-year-old Joseph Vavrecan of Olean sold the drug on February 1 in the Town of Hinsdale. 22-year-old Lawrence Smith of Buffalo will spend 4 months in jail and 5 years on probation for selling drugs on May 9 of last year in Olean. And, 21-year-old Alexander Carpenter of Allegany has pleaded not guilty to selling drugs in Olean on April 26. His case has been adjourned for motions. A Buffalo man already in Cattaraugus County Jail on drug charges has pleaded guilty to more drug charges. 33-year-old Demario Watkins sold a controlled substance on December 19 in Salamanca. He is scheduled for sentencing on January 5. In March he was sentenced to a year behind bars for selling a narcotic drug on November 10, 2011, in Salamanca. A Salamanca man was picked up over the weekend in connection to a burglary that happened almost a year ago. State police charged 23-year-old Jeremy Foster with felony burglary in connection to an incident last December in Portville. Foster was released on his own recognizance pending further court action. Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s deputies responding to a domestic dispute found a marijuana growing operation. They say they went to the Ellicottville home of 42-year-old Sammuel Beu Jr., where they found several marijuana plants, processed marijuana and drying marijuana, all in plain view. An investigation uncovered the pot-growing operation in Salamanca. Beu is charged with growing cannabis without a license and unlawful possession of marijuana. A fourth person – this time a woman – has pleaded not guilty to taking part in a gang assault in Salamanca this past winter. Besides gang assault, 27-year-old Samantha Miller of Salamanca is charged with assault and felony reckless endangerment in connection to the January 25 incident. Cattaraugus County prosecutors say the victim suffered head injuries. Her co-defendants are Yancey Dowdy and Jacob White, who are both also from Salamanca, and William Larkin of Steamburg.
