CLARENDON – The Chapman State Park campground will officially open for the 2015 camping season beginning Friday, April 10 to accommodate trout fishermen. The April 10 opening includes all campsites in the lower loop, camping cottages, and yurts. Sites in the lower loop are now open to pets. Upper loop campsites will open May 15, 2015. Reservations can be made online and through the PA State Parks call center up to 11 months in advance, or at the park office the day of arrival only. Facilities available for reservations include campsites, camping cottages, yurts, organized group tenting area, pavilions, and an amphitheater. Chapman State Park’s campground is a beautiful wooded site and consists of three camping cottages, two yurts, and 82 campsites that vary from secluded tent only sites to 100 foot camping spurs with 50 amp electric hook-ups. The Winterfest Event Committee announced today that a new event will happen at this year’s Winterfest for the first time. The new event is the Outhouse Races which are scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM on Sunday January 18th at 2:00 PM at Chapman State Park. The event is designed to be both a fundraiser to help support the Winterfest Event and a humorous, but competitive addition to the slate of events at Winterfest. The event will basically involve a five person team racing a cut down version of an outhouse mounted on cross country skis. The team will consist of one rider sitting on the throne in the outhouse with two team members pushing the outhouse and two people pulling the outhouse by attached ropes. Each team will be timed for covering the 50 yard race course. Team contestants must be a minimum of 18 years old, except that the rider on the throne can be a minimum of ten years old, provided that a parent is also a participant in the event. A 70-year-old Lewis Run man has pleaded guilty to exposing himself to exposing himself to at least one woman and numerous children back in August. James Hopkins admits to the incident that happened on the afternoon of August 4 at Chapman Dam State Park. He left after the woman confronted him. A sentencing date hasn’t been set yet. Earlier this month police got a report of a man exposing himself at Chapman State Park. Now they believe they have their man, and he’s from Lewis Run. The incident happened at 12:30 on the afternoon of August 4 when 70-year-old James Hopkins allegedly exposed himself to at least one woman and numerous children. He left after the woman confronted him. Police say a tip led them to Hopkins and further investigation led to charges of indecent exposure and open lewdness. Hopkins is free on $25,000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 10. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

With the summer season approaching, your local State Parks are gearing up for another great season of fun. Chapman State Park’s swimming beach will officially open to the public Saturday May 25, 2013 at 8:00 a.m. Swimming hours are 8 a.m. to sunset. In addition to the beach opening, our concessionaire, BEI, will be opening Friday May, 24th at 1 pm. The concession provides canoes, kayaks and paddle boats for rent as well as food, snacks and firewood for sale. Contact BEI or the park office for concession hours. Pennsylvania Game Commission Land Management Group Supervisor Richard T. Cramer announced the temporary closing of a 5.3-mile portion of Dunham Siding Road on State Game Land 29 in Warren County for necessary road repairs. According to Cramer, who oversees management of State Game Lands in Forest and Warren counties, the road runs through SGL 29 from Dunham Siding on the Allegheny National Forest to Chapman State Park. “As part of the road project, we will replace 76 culvert pipes and upgrade the existing road surface,” Cramer said. “The project is designed to alleviate soil erosion and drainage issues that affect the water quality in the West Branch Tionesta Creek. To further improve water quality, the entire road surface will have a new, updated stone running surface. “Presently, we expect the project to be completed by the end of September, and we will reopen the road at that time, just in time for the start of the small game and archery deer seasons.” The news leader of the Twin...

Lakefront Gobblers chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation will host a “Women in the Outdoors” event on Saturday, February 18th , 2012, from 7:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Chapman State Park in Clarendon, PA. Pre-registration is required for this event. Registration can be done by going to www.womenintheoutdoors.org, and then clicking on “PA WITO Event Manager Calendar” and then searching the calendar. A beneficial partnership between the National Wild Turkey Federation and the Pennsylvania Game Commission helps provide outdoor opportunities such as this to women in the Keystone State.
