Two cats left in plastic animal carriers last year in the area of Windy City near Forestry Road 195 in Elk County, were recently found by a hiker. State police say the cats were dropped there between March and September of last year and were undisturbed through the winter. Both cats had long orange fur. One had a blue nylon collar. A man and woman from Mount Jewett are accused of trying to kill a dog. 34-year-old Tyler Rush and 24-year-old Ashley Reinard are each charged with cruelty to animals in connection to an August 8 incident when Reinard allegedly told Rush to kill a dog that had been injured because she said there was no saving it. According to court records, Rush tried to snap the dog’s neck, and when that didn’t work he tried to cut its throat with a pocket knife. The dog survived. A malnourished and injured horse had to be put to sleep after it was found on Deering Road in Summit Township on Monday. State police in Coudersport say the horse did not have appropriate food, water or shelter, and also had a number of injuries they suspect were from neglect. A veterinarian said the horse had to be euthanized because of the injuries. Police are continuing their investigation, and animal cruelty charges are pending.
