NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – St. Bonaventure's Josh Stauffer was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the third time this season on Wednesday, the conference announced. The honor comes after Stauffer was awarded low medalist runner-up on a match of cards at the La Salle Invitational on Sunday. He fired a two-over-par 73 at Talamore Country Club in Ambler, Pa., and finished two strokes behind champion Brandon Shin of Hofstra in the 63-player field. For Stauffer, it was his fifth top-10 finish in eight tournaments this season, and the runner-up performance is second only to his co-medalist finish in SBU's Leo Keenan Invitational in September. The Bradford, Pa., native hasn't finished lower than 14th in any event during his freshman campaign. At La Salle, Stauffer recorded three birdies and was 1-under par on the course's three par-5 holes. He shot 37 over the front nine and cut a stroke off of that over the final nine holes. Led by Josh Stauffer's runner-up finish, the St. Bonaventure men's golf team placed seventh of 11 teams on Sunday in the weather-shortened La Salle Invitational. Stauffer (pictured) fired a 2-over par 73 at Talamore Country Club and finished two shots back of medalist Brandon Shin of Hofstra. Siena's Jess Esposito also had a 73, but Stauffer was awarded low-medalist runner-up on a match of cards. The Bonnies carded a 719 team total and finished 23 strokes behind champion Hofstra. The tournament was scheduled to conclude with Monday's second round, but expected inclement weather wiped out the final 18 holes. Other than Stauffer, Brian McKenna was the only other SBU player to post a sub-80 round as the senior tied for 20th in 63-player field with a 79. Also for the Bonnies, junior Scott Brady shot 83 and tied for 33rd while freshman Darren Simons and junior Chris Mackey tied for 41st with rounds of 84. POWELLS POINT, N.C. – St. Bonaventure freshman Josh Stauffer (pictured) is among the leaders after the first round of the Old Dominion University/Outer Banks Collegiate Golf Tournament. Stauffer shot an even-par 72 on Sunday and is tied for seventh place heading into Monday's second round at the Kilmarlic Golf Club. The Bonnies registered a 317 collectively and are tied for 16th in the 18-team field. Stauffer stands six shots back of leader Scott Wolfes, who posted a 6-under 66 to pace first-round team leader Georgia Southern. Stauffer started strong, collecting birdies on three of the first four holes. The two-time Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week added three more birdies on holes 8, 12 and 14. Brian McKenna came in as St. Bonaventure's second finisher after shooting a 79. The senior is tied for 53rd in the 94-player field. ITHACA, N.Y. – Freshman Josh Stauffer picked up another top finish as the St. Bonaventure golf team finished sixth at the Cornell Invitational, which wrapped with Sunday's final round at the par-72, 6890-yard Robert Trent Jones Golf Course. Stauffer (pictured) finished tied for sixth-place out of 75 golfers after shooting a 77 on Sunday and 149 for the tournament. With the help of an even-par 72 round on Saturday, the Bradford Pa. native picked up his third top-10 finish in four tournaments this fall. The Bonnies, who came into the final round leading the 12-team tournament by three shots, posted a 319 on Sunday. They registered a 294 in the first round and 613 for the tournament, finishing 20 strokes behind champion Binghamton.
