Grease will be performed in the Port Allegany High School Auditorium on May 12, 13, and 14. This will be the first spring musical since 2019.  

Jeanne Gehret , Susan B. Anthony re-enactor, will visit S.W. Smith Memorial Library of Port Allegany and Bradford Area Public Library on Saturday, March 2 as part of National Women’s History Month. She will visit the SW Smith Library at 10:00 am and the Bradford Library at 2:00 pm. The program is free and open to the public. Susan Brownell Anthony  is famous for being one of the most prominent leaders of the women’s suffrage movement in the United States, which ultimately led to the  Nineteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution,  granting women the right the vote. Although the amendment, popularly known as the Anthony Amendment , that was ratified after her death, her contribution in it cannot be overstated. Apart from fighting for equal rights for women throughout her life, Anthony was involved in several other efforts, including the abolishment of slavery. Arrest warrants have been issued for three people accused of robbing a Port Allegany man at gunpoint Sunday night. Police say 24-year-old Jacob Borowsky was walking in Crosby when 23-year-old Stephanie Berg of Eldred pulled her Jeep Cherokee into a driveway. She and her passenger, 25-year-old Richard Gould III of Eldred, told Borowsky to get inside and, because he knew them, he did. But then 31-year-old Shad Gutshall of Warren put Borowsky in a choke hold, put a gun to his head and demanded all of his money. After he gave them about $100, they let him go. The Bradford City Water Authority along with Zippo President and CEO Greg Booth will be honored by the YMCA of the Twin Tiers with the organization’s George G. Blaisdell Community Service Award. The awards presentation will be during the annual breakfast on May 5 at Pitt-Bradford. Also, the 2015 Ray C. Uhler Outstanding Youth Award recipients have been named. They are Sarah Potter from Bradford Area High School, Lauren Kerr, Otto-Eldred; Dillon Mattis, Kane; Keenan Kost, Smethport; and Jefferson Stehle, Port Allegany. Three of four people involved in a fight that started at the Port Allegany Sheetz in September have entered pleas in McKean County Court. 25-year-old Kyle Bonneau of Roulette, who was stabbed in the fight, pleaded no contest to simple assault and disorderly conduct. 27-year-old Christopher Taylor of Port Allegany pleaded guilty to DUI. 18-year-old Triston Duell of Coudersport pleaded guilty to harassment. Duell was fined $100 and ordered to have no contact with Bonneau. Taylor and Bonneau are both scheduled for sentencing in March. A hearing for the fourth man, 36-year-old Antwan Cunningham of Coudersport, who is accused of stabbing Bonneau, has been moved to February 19. The fight started at about 4:30 a.m. on September 21 in the Sheetz parking lot, and later continued at the intersection of Arnold Avenue and North Main Street. A 26-year-old McKean County man is accused of sexually abusing children in Potter and Elk counties. 26-year-old Christopher Mitchell of Port Allegany is charged with sexual abuse of children, unlawful contact with a minor, corruption of minors and indecent assault. The Lakeview Motel in Sinnemahoning was heavily damaged by fire early this morning. The fire was reported at about 2:45 a.m. and volunteers from Sinnemahoning, Emporium, Coudersport and Austin were on the scene for about four hours. Although the roof caved in, most of the damage was confined to the hotel area and not the storefront. When they got this call, firefighters had just gotten back from battling a blaze in Coudersport that did $175,000 worth of damage to a house on Crandall Street. Coudersport fire Chief Bryan Phelps says the house is a total loss and very little personal property could be salvaged. A state police fire marshal was called in to investigate, and could not determine a cause. Port Allegany, Roulette and Galeton firefighters also responded. A burglary charge against an Eldred man accused of breaking down an apartment door with a baseball bat has been dismissed, but three other charges have been bound to McKean County Court following a preliminary hearing this morning. 32-year-old Geromia Schoonover was trying to get his ex-girlfriend to open the door during the October 27 incident in Port Allegany, according to court records. He’s still charged with defiant trespass, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. Schoonover is free on unsecured bail. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

A Port Allegany man is facing child pornography charges in Potter County. 26-year-old Christopher Mitchell is accused of having inappropriate contact with a child younger than 16 in August of 2011 in Ulysses. He is facing five felony child pornography and child sex charges. Mitchell is in Potter County jail on $75,000 bail. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

A Port Allegany bar has been cited for a liquor law violation. State police say the liquor license for Moe’s Bar & Grill on West Mill Street expired on July 31 and hadn’t been renewed by September 17. Two of the men involved in a fight near Sheetz in Port Allegany back in September have waived their preliminary hearings. 25-year-old Kyle Bonneau of Roulette, whose stab wounds required surgery, is charged with aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and related offenses for allegedly punching 36-year-old Antwan Cunningham of Coudersport in the face until he was unconscious. 26-year-old Christopher Taylor of Port Allegany, who was with Bonneau, is charged with aggravated assault as well. Both men are free on unsecured bail. Charges against Cunningham and 18-year-old Triston Duell, also of Coudersport, were bound to McKean County Court following preliminary hearings. A man originally charged with nearly 900 offenses related to sexually abusing a girl for 10 years will spend the next 22 ½ to 45 years in state prison. 66-year-old Gordon Link of Port Allegany pleaded no contest in April to aggravated indecent assault and corruption of minors. He is accused of sexually abusing a girl between the time she was 5 years old until she turned 15. He has been deemed a sexually violent predator. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

An Eldred man is facing charges for a burglary in Port Allegany. Geromia Schoonover is charged with felony burglary and misdemeanor counts of defiant trespass, criminal mischief/tampering with property, and disorderly conduct in connection to an incident Monday in the borough. Schoonover is free on $5,000 unsecured bail and a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for November 6 in front of District Judge Bill Todd. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

A 21-year-old man who sent naked pictures of himself to a girl younger than 18 has waived his preliminary hearing on child pornography charges. Jacob Tarr confessed to his parole officer and a police officer that he sent the pictures to the teenager from a computer in Port Allegany, as well as other places in McKean County, according to papers filed in District Judge Bill Todd's office. A Port Allegany man is accused of threatening police after being arrested for DUI last Friday morning. Police say 48-yea-rold Daniel Vidonish Jr. was pulled over fro multiple traffic violations on Route 6 in Eulalia Township in Potter County. That’s when police determined he was driving under the influence. They also found marijuana and paraphernalia in his car. They say he made numerous threats, saying he was going to harm law enforcement officers. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on November 6. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Legal troubles continue to mount for a Port Allegany veteran suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. 45-year-old Diane Ayala is now accused of charged more than $3,500 on another person’s credit card and the Crosby’s store on South Avenue, Dollar General in Eldred and McKean County E-Sales in Smethport. She was sent to McKean County Jail in lieu of $35,000 bail. Last week she was charged by Olean-based state police with stealing $77 worth of merchandise from the Allegany Wal-Mart. All of these happened while she is on probation for confronted three non-American men inside the Bradford McDonald’s in November. In January, when sentencing her to a year of probation and 40 hours of community service, McKean County Judge John Pavlock urged Ayala to avoid further unlawful activity. A Mercy Flight helicopter on its way from Port Allegany to Buffalo made an unplanned landing in Olean this morning. A spokeswoman for Mercy Flight says the helicopter was flying to ECMC when the pilot felt something unusual at the controls and landed at the Olean Airport. Area fire departments were called as a precaution, but the helicopter landed without a problem. Another helicopter was brought in to take the patient to Buffalo. A Port Allegany woman on probation in McKean County for drunkenly confronting three non-American men inside the Bradford McDonald’s in November is now facing charges in Cattaraugus County. Olean-based state police say 45-year-old Diane Ayala took $77 worth of merchandise from the Allegany Wal-Mart without paying for it. She was sent to Cattaraugus County Jail and scheduled to appear in court. After the incident at McDonald’s Ayala attributed her behavior to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. She is a US Army veteran and served in Operation Desert Storm. In January, when sentencing her to a year of probation and 40 hours of community service, Judge John Pavlock urged Ayala to avoid further unlawful activity. The Port Allegany High School Chamber Singers have been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall. They will be singing during the 9th Annual Performing Arts Educators Invitational in New York on January 17. The concert will feature invited choirs in representative performances as well as a combined finale under the direction of Dr. Peggy Dettwiler of Mansfield University. The man who was stabbed during an incident near Sheetz in Port Allegany, and another man, are now facing charges. 25-year-old Kyle Bonneau of Roulette is charged with aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and related offenses in connection to the September 21 incident that left him with several stab wounds that required surgery. Court papers say he and 36-year-old Antwan Cunningham of Coudersport got into a fight and while Cunningham was stabbing Bonneau, Bonneau punched Cunningham in the face until he was unconscious. He had cuts on his cheek, lip and wrist, a black eye and at least two missing teeth. 26-year-old Christopher Taylor of Port Allegany, who was with Bonneau, is charged with aggravated assault as well. 18-year-old Triston Duell of Coudersport, who was with Cunningham, is also charged with aggravated assault. Cunningham is in McKean County Jail on $75,000 bail. Bonneau is free on $75,000 bail. Taylor and Duell are each free on $20,000 bail. All four ...
