A man who threatened nurses at Bradford Manor and spit in the mouth of a police officer who was trying to take him into custody is headed to state prison. 44-year-old Shannon Shroyer of Eldred waved a pocket knife at nurses and inappropriately touched one of the nurses last August while he was a patient at the manor. Shroyer has hepatitis C, so the police officer had to be tested to see if he contracted it. He was sentenced to one to two years in prison but given credit for 264 days of time served. The Eldred man accused of threatening Bradford Manor staff members with a knife this past August has waived his preliminary hearing. 44-year-old Shannon Shroyer threatened the staff with a pocket knife, tried to kiss one nurse’s neck and inappropriately touched another nurse, damaged IV equipment and hit a member of the nursing staff in the eye with an item he threw, according to papers filed in District Judge Rich Luther’s office. He also said someone was going to die if they didn’t give him back his Black Velvet and cigarettes, and spit in the face of a police officer who was taking him out of the building. Rarely in today’s world of employment, can an organization boast of employee longevity. Yet Bradford Manor, managed by HCF Management Inc., Lima, Ohio, recently honored 10 employees for over 20-plus years of service to the care community, at the exclusive annual Platinum Club Celebration held in Edinboro, Pennsylvania. According to Chuck Okorowski, Vice President of Human Resources for HCF Management Inc., “employee longevity is one of the unique characteristics of Bradford Manor which results in the outstanding level of quality of care that is provided to the residents. HCF is honored to have such a dedicated team of care providers working for them.” Overall, HCF recognized over 340 employees who have twenty or more years of service with HCF. The employees were honored with a celebratory luncheon, awards and a special cloisonné pin. The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford will host the fifth annual Empty Bowls and Baskets Dinner of homemade soup and bread to raise awareness of the fight against hunger and to raise money for the Friendship Table. The dinner will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, March 18, in the Mukaiyama University Room in the Frame-Westerberg Commons. Tickets are $10 and will be sold at the door. Diners are invited to take home a handcrafted ceramic bowl, basket or hand-sewn cloth napkins as a reminder that someone else’s bowl might be empty. According to Dr. Holly J. Spittler, associate dean of student affairs and chairwoman of the event, “The premise behind the dinner is to offer a simple meal of homemade soups and breads and a place at the table for all as a way to increase our awareness of the fight against hunger.” In the past five years, this popular Women’s History Month event has raised more than $5,000 for the Friendship Table. “We would not have been able to do this without the help...
