The Allegheny National Forest announces the seasonal closing of the following facilities: Dew Drop Campground – September 3, 2013 Kiasutha Campground and Day Use Area – September 3, 2013 Kinzua Beach Concessions – September 3, 2013 Wolf Run Marina – September 15, 2013 Please note that although the Kinzua Beach Concessions will be closing on September 3, the beach and picnic area are open year round. Warren, Pa. – On Friday, September 3rd, the Allegheny National Forest will present an illustrated evening program on the American black bear. The program will explore and discuss the various ways North American generations have identified with black bears. Topics will also include folklore, history, biology, and safety in bear country. The program will take place at 8:00 p.m. near the Kinzua Beach bath house. There is no charge for attendance or parking. Please bring your own chairs, blankets, and flashlights.

The hot days and warm nights of summer are the perfect time to stake down a tent or pack up the RV and pull out the backpack to enjoy some family fun in the Allegheny National Forest region in Pennsylvania. Temperatures in the higher altitude of the Allegheny Plateau provide cool breezes on those hot summer nights and the pristine shore line of the Allegheny Reservoir provides plenty of opportunities for water adventures. The lush green forest lands of the Allegheny National Forest region draws thousands of visitors each year to experience life in the Pennsylvania Wilds whether you want to camp in the woods or stay in one of the many cozy cabins available in the region. Allegheny Site Management handles all the camping within the Allegheny National Forest, including Willow Bay, which has access to the Allegheny Reservoir. WARREN – Kinzua Beach and Kinzua Point Information Center (KPIC) will be open to the public again in 2010 as free recreation sites. Both facilities will be open for the summer season beginning Friday, May 28th. In addition to the amenities added last season (new pavilion, sand volleyball courts, and horseshoe play area), Kinzua Beach now offers newly renovated restrooms with flush toilets. The Beach is a day-use area open from sunrise to sunset with no charge for admission or parking. KPIC, on the Allegheny Reservoir, will be open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. KPIC offers visitor information services and newly renovated restrooms, but does not sell permits of any kind. The view of the Allegheny Reservoir from KPIC is exceptional and provides some amazing photo opportunities, as well as a place to stop, walk around and relax. The Allegheny National Forest (NF) has approved the Rimrock Trail Project, which will create a low-impact, non-motorized interpretive hiking trail between Kinzua Beach and Rimrock Overlook. In addition, the trail will include an information kiosk at Kinzua Beach, a handicap accessible observation deck near Kinzua Beach, and an interpretive tree house that will be flush with the earth’s surface below the Rimrock Overlook. District Ranger Anthony Scardina stated, “I am pleased to be moving forward with this project, which was presented as a citizens’ proposal to the Forest Service through the efforts of the Pennsylvania Kinzua Pathways and designed by students and teachers through the Warren County Career Center.
