Raymond C. Schweizer, 90, of 180 Penhurst Dr. Pittsburgh, PA., formerly of 15 Thomas Road, Bradford, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born January 30, 1921, in Buffalo he was a son of the late Charles and Gertrude (Raymond) Schweizer. On June 25, 1947 in Buffalo he married Elizabeth "Betty" (Roarke) Schweizer who died April 24, 2005. He was a 1938 graduate of Bennett High School in Buffalo, and later graduated with a bachelors degree in Business Administration from the University of Buffalo in 1951. In 1943 he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp and attended B-29 Flight Engineering School. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He worked as a police officer in Buffalo while attending the University of Buffalo. After the service he worked for the FBI in Philadelphia. By ANNE HOLLIDAY WESB/WBRR News Director The Bradford Zoning Hearing Board on Tuesday granted variances to two businesses, which could mean a pick-me-up for the local economy. The first variance will allow Bradford Fairway Sales & Leasing to build an auto showroom for its Ford Lincoln Mercury and Chrysler Dodge Jeep business at 215 Euclid Avenue. The current car lot there will remain, and the building will be added onto it. Ben Shearman, general manager of Bradford Fairway Sales & Leasing, explained that the current building on East Main Street “can’t support the needs of two additional franchises.” Board member Jeff Carson said he had concerns about traffic because that’s “a rotten intersection,” but Shearman said he doesn’t anticipate a huge or significant increase in traffic. “The nerve center of the whole unit in its totality will still be operating” from the East Main Street location. John H. Yerdon, 65, of 648 East Main Street, passed away Thursday, September 23rd, 2010 at Hamot Medical Center in Erie. Born September 27, 1944, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Harold J. and Dorothy (Sprout) Yerdon. On August 20, 1988 in the First Presbyterian Church in Bradford he married Valerie Kilhofer who survives. He was a 1962 graduate of Bradford High School. He worked at various businesses in the Bradford area, including Kendall Refining Company and also worked for Prudential Insurance Company. For the last 25 years, he worked in the sales department at Fairway Ford. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, The Jaycees, The Fraternal Order of the Eagles and The Italian American Progressive Club. He also volunteered his time with Special Olympics, the Disabled Veterans Triathlon and was a member and past president of the Don Raabe Big 30 All Star Charities Classic.
