The McKean County Republican Committee has unanimously elected Stacy Wallace of Bradford as chairman of the McKean County Republican Committee. Wallace succeeds state Rep. Martin Causer of Turtlepoint, who has served as chairman for the last four years. He chose not to run for re-election because he felt the goals he set when he was elected had been reached. Upon her election as chairman, Wallace resigned her position on the Republican State Committee. Lyle Stewart of Bradford was appointed to replace her. The committee also re-elected Ken Kane of Kane as vice chairman and Gayle Bauer of Bradford as treasurer. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

It appears George Hocker has defeated current Foster Township Supervisor Chairman John Sullivan by a count of 431 to 308 in today’s election. Bradford Township Supervisor Gayle Bauer, however, held off her challenger Richard Yovichin by a count of 410 to 248. It appears Michael Angelo squeaked by Timothy Newhouse in the race for Lafayette Township supervisor by a vote of 58 to 56. In Liberty Township, Fred Ernst defeated Charles Safford by a vote of 106 to 84. Election results are not official until the Board of Elections certifies them on Friday. UPDATE Bradford Sanitary Authority will receive a PENNVEST $15,598,357 loan and a $3,146,643 grant to upgrade and expand its sewage treatment plant in order to eliminate wet weather overloading of the plant and discharges of partially treated sewage into Tunungwant Creek. By ANNE HOLLIDAY WESB/WBRR News Director The Bradford Sanitary Authority and Bradford City Council can agree on one thing: Whatever is going to be done about upgrading the wastewater treatment plant has to be done as soon as possible. The two groups held a work session Tuesday to discuss plans for the plant. Bradford Township supervisor Gayle Bauer and Foster Township supervisor John Sullivan also attended. At issue is the best way to upgrade the plant, at the lowest cost. Another issue is which engineering firm would be best for the job. By ANNE HOLLIDAY WESB/WBRR News Director If municipalities in the Tuna Valley are going to survive, they’re going to have to consider consolidation of services. Bradford Township Supervisor Gayle Bauer remarked on that issue during the third annual Bradford Area Chamber of Commerce Legislative Luncheon held Thursday at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. “I think it would be very easy for me to stand up here and say everything is fine and dandy and we can keep on doing what we’ve been doing,” Bauer said when asked about consolidation of services. “But I really don’t think that’s the case. I think every municipality in the Tuna Valley and surrounding areas is going to have worse budgetary problems every year we go on.” “We’re going to have to look at the consolidation issue probably staring with something that’s easy and not too controversial. Bradford Township Supervisor Gayle Bauer tells WESB and The HERO that because of the oil spill Hedgehog Lane is closed from West Washington Street to the top of the hill until further notice. Bauer is asking people to stay away from the area. She says crews are on the scene trying to control the spill that was reported at just before 11 o'clock this morning. The Red Cross is assisting at the scene
