Everyone is invited to attend the sixth presentation of the Southern Tier Symphony’s " Bach’s Lunch, " concert April 15 at 1 PM at the First Presbyterian Church, 54 East Corydon Street, Bradford. " This concert is co-sponsored by the Greater Olean Association of Churches, and was started as a way to provide a unique opportunity to ‘pause for reflection’ during Holy Week. Everyone is welcome and we don’t require a ticket, although a free will offering is received. It allows us to ‘give back’ a little to the wonderful community that supports us, ” said Betsy Cashing, President of the Southern Tier Symphony Board of Directors in a news release sent to WESB. A fundraiser for the Southern Tier Symphony will be held on Sunday, October 27. at Rock City Park from 4 t 7 p.m. Hosts Dale and Cindy Smith create the annual "Howl-iday" atmosphere of the season for an afternoon of bewitching music from acoustic jamming by local musicians spiced up with wickedly delightful treats. Costumes are encouraged as you wander the grounds and visitor center, gobble the appetizer/dessert treats, chat with "Jen the Fortuneteller" and enter the basket and art raffles. The Southern Tier Symphony will perform “Russian Fall,” featuring Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 in F minor, at 3 p.m. Sept. 22 in the Bromeley Family Theater of Blaisdell Hall at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. Tickets for the event are $20 for the public and free for all students. Other selections are “Little Suite” by Witold Lutoslawski, “Polka from the Golden Age” by Dimitri Shostakovitch, “Russian Christmas” by Alfred Reed and selections from “Les Miserables” by Claude Michel Schoenber. The symphony is directed by John Whitney, who has led orchestras on three continents, including those in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Venezuela. He has performed with or conducted a host of platinum artists, including Luciano Pavarotti, Tony Bennett, Ray Charles, Henry Mancini, Cab Calloway, Liberace and Doc Severinsen. The Southern Tier Symphony will perform “Favorites with Flute,” featuring soloist Mary Kay Robinson, at 3 p.m. March 10 in the Bromeley Family Theater of Blaisdell Hall. Tickets for the event are $20 for the public and free for all students. The program will include works by Schubert, Vivaldi, Foss and an encore performance of the original commissioned work by local artist Jacob Pleakis. Robinson founded Panorámicos, a prize-winning mixed chamber ensemble that is the ensemble in residence at Case Western Reserve University. She has risen to national prominence as a versatile flutist who has performed with the symphony orchestras of Chicago, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Buffalo and Kansas City, the Cleveland Opera, and the Cleveland Orchestra.
