Sarah Palin says she will step down as governor of Alaska in a "few weeks" -- before the end of her term, CNN reports. Her last day is expected to be July 26. Speculation is that she is clearing the way for a run at the presidency in 2012. More from CNN .

Sarah Palin lost the election, but she's a winner to a connoisseur of quotations. The Republican vice presidential candidate and her comedic doppelganger, Tina Fey, took the top two spots in this year's list of most memorable quotes compiled by Fred R. Shapiro. First place was "I can see Russia from my house!" spoken in satire of Palin's foreign policy credentials by Fey on "Saturday Night Live." The Democratic and Republican vice presidential candidates were holding campaign rallies Thursday just a couple hours, and several miles, apart in this often-overlooked area of Pennsylvania, one of the most hotly contested battleground states in the nation. "It's a big deal. I even kept my kids out of school to bring them here," said William Shannon, 41, of Cogan Station, as he waited outside the late-afternoon rally for Democratic candidate Joe Biden at a gym at Lycoming College. Erie County Republican Party Chairman Brad Moore has confirmed that Alaska Governor Sarah Palin will campaign in Erie on Thursday. Moore says he is still trying to get more details, but says in all likelihood Palin will hold a public rally. He says he'll release more details as he gets them. Governor Ed Rendell will hold a public rally at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Cruise Boat Terminal at the foot of Holland Street, according to Erie County Democratic Party Chairwoman Cathi Zelazny. Rendell is kicking off a state bus tour in Erie for Senator Barack Obama and his running mate, Senator Joe Biden.

The husband of Republican vice presidential candidate and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin will make three campaign stops in western Pennsylvania on Saturday. Todd Palin will attend a breakfast meet-and-greet in Greensburg, before attending a rally at the Pitcairn-Monroeville Sportsmen's Club. Palin will also appear with Attorney General Tom Corbett at a tailgate meet-and-greet event in State College before the Penn State-Michigan football game.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (CNN) -- Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin abused her power as Alaska's governor and violated state ethics law by trying to get her ex-brother-in-law fired from the state police, a state investigator's report concluded Friday. The investigator's report states Palin's efforts to get Wooten fired broke a state ethics law that bars public officials from pursuing personal interest through official action. Sarah Palin as other, more prominent prospects dropped away. Two GOP strategists close to the McCain campaign said all indications pointed to Palin, a self-styled "hockey mom" and political reformer.
