Rep. Tom Reed, county police, sheriff, fire and emergency services departments gathered at Cornell University Thursday for an Emergency Responders Advisory Board meeting. A Hornell man was hurt in a one-vehicle crash this morning on I-86 near the Kennedy exit. Sheriff’s deputies say 67-year-old Rodney Milliner veered off the road for an unknown reason and his vehicle hit a guide rail, then slid about 300 feet into a ditch. Milliner was taken to WCA Hospital in Jamestown for treatment of what deputies believe are non-life-threatening injuries. Charges are pending. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

A Hornell man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for having more than 600 images and videos of child pornography on his computer. 26-year-old Taber Wells downloaded the images between September fo 2009 and June of 2010. The US Attorney’s office say some of the images depicted children younger than 12. Taber will be on parole for 35 years after he’s released from prison. The FBI handled the investigation. Coudersport – A roadway improvement project on Route 6 in Potter County will enter a new phase next week, as temporary traffic signals are turned on mid-week. The roadway betterment work will extend the useful life of the roadway and bridges and result in a smoother, safer ride for motorists. The four-mile work zone stretches from the Potato City Inn to about one mile east of the Denton Hill Ski area. Temporary traffic signals are located on the bridge at the Denton Hill Ski area and on the bridge about one mile east of the ski area. The signals will be placed on flash mode Wednesday, May 16. The signals will be activated on Tuesday, May 22, enforcing an alternating traffic pattern so that crews can work in the closed lane of each bridge. For roadwork, daylight, alternating traffic patterns will be in place and drivers can expect to encounter flaggers on the roadway and short travel delays. Motorists need to be alert for sudden stops. A Hornell man is dead after being hit by a train Sunday morning in Allegany County. State Police say 26-year-old Joshua Hudson was hit by the Canadian Pacific train on the Northern Southern-owned Southern Tier line at just before 7 a.m. Police are still trying to figure out why Hudson was on the tracks. They say there was no vehicle nearby, and no one else was near the tracks when he was hit. They say they will be reviewing video taken from the train. Hudson played guitar in a local band called Chorus of Shotguns.

The Hornell, New York, family who had been missing for a week have been found in a hotel in Scranton. 27-year-old Alicia Appleton and her children 8-year-old Alexis Slayton and 6-year-old David Slayton were found with Eric Trumball, an acquaintance of Appleton’s. Police thought the four could be headed toward Bradford because Trumball has relatives here. Appleton, however, has relatives in Scranton. In a news release, Hornell police said everyone in the group was in good health; they were all obeying the law; and they were minding their own business. The matter has been turned over to the Steuben County Department of Social Services Child Protective Unit.

A Hornell, New York, mother and her two children are still missing and police are concerned for their safety. They say 27-year-old Alicia Appleton checked herself out of the psychiatric unit of a hospital last week, then left the area with her children. Police believe they may be traveling with 26-yearold Eric Trumball, who Appleton met at the hospital. The children, 8-year-old Alexis Slayton and 6-year-old David Slayton, were last seen severely sunburned and walking barefoot along railroad tracks in Arkport, New York. Police believe they could be headed toward Bradford. Anyone with information on their whereabouts is asked to contact Hornell Police or state police in Wayland. A Hornell, New York, family is missing and police believe they may be in, or headed to, Bradford. 27-year-old Alicia Appleton and her two children have been missing since last Tuesday. The children are 8-year-old Alexis Slayton and 6-year-old David Slayton. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children said the children were last seen walking along the railroad tracks in Arkport. A Marine from Hornell has been killed in Afghanistan. 19-year-old Lance Corporal Zachary Smith died Saturday. Smith was a 2008 graduate of Hornell High School and was deployed to Afghanistan a month ago.
