More than a dozen bridges in McKean County – including one in Bradford – will be replaced under Pennsylvania’s Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. PennDOT Secretary Barry Schoch announced today that the agency has finalized terms for the $899 million project that will replace 558 bridges across the state. The Bennett Brook Bridge in Bradford, Shep Run Road bridges in Custer City, and the Pennbrook and Foster Brook bridges in Derrick City are among those targeted for replacement. Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners and its team of 11 Pennsylvania-based subcontractors will lead the project, and will be responsible for getting the money to start replacing the bridges, as well as maintenance for 25 years after construction. Harrisburg – PennDOT announced today that streaming video from its more than 700 traffic cameras is now available on 511PA. PennDOT recently upgraded its 511PA website and mobile application to allow for the continuously streaming footage. Previously, the site and mobile application were limited to providing real-time conditions using still images that were refreshed every five seconds. “Our 511 system puts travel information at drivers’ fingertips and helps them make travel decisions before and during their trip,” PennDOT Secretary Barry J. Schoch said. “The new streaming video shows real-time traffic flow to help give motorists an even better idea of what to expect on our roadways.” The streaming video is the latest improvement to the 511PA service. Effective at noon Friday PennDOT will post weight limits on a Columbia Hill Road bridge in McKean County. The bridge spans the North Branch of Cole Creek in Keating Township, near the village of Wrights Corners, according to a news release sent to WESB. As of noon Friday, the bridge will be posted for 33 tons for single vehicles and 40 tons for combination vehicles. The Wrights Corners Bridge was built in 1941, is 33 feet long, and carries an average of more than 300 vehicles daily. In August of 2013, PennDOT Secretary Barry J. Schoch authorized the transportation department to add or increase weight restrictions to about 1,000 structurally deficient bridges statewide. Bridges on Dorothy Lane, Sullivan Road, Columbia Hill Road, Barnum Road and Kushequa Avenue are among those in McKean County that will be posted with new or lowered weight restrictions. Last week, PennDOT secretary Barry Schoch said 1,000 structurally deficient bridges across the state had been authorized for new or added weight restrictions in order to slow down deterioration and ensure safety. He said the move is necessary because the state Legislature has not acted on transportation funding. Lawmakers in both the House and Senate say that is one of their priorities for the fall session. Schoch authorized his department to add or increase weight restrictions to about 1,000 structurally deficient (SD) bridges statewide to ensure bridge safety and preserve our aging bridge system. PennDOT must take this step because of legislative inaction this past June on transportation funding, leaving the department’s future resources in question. Harrisburg – As the new school year begins, PennDOT reminds drivers to remain vigilant as students and school buses return to the roadways. “Our ultimate goal is to make sure everyone safely arrives at their destination,” said PennDOT Secretary Barry J. Schoch. “Motorists should avoid distractions and obey school bus and school zone traffic laws so we have the safest possible environment for students boarding and exiting buses.” By law, motorists approaching from all directions are required to stop at least 10 feet from a school bus with its red lights flashing and stop arm extended. The only exception is when a driver encounters a school bus stopping on the opposite side of a highway clearly separated by a divider, such as concrete barriers or grass medians. Even in this situation, motorists should be alert for students trying to cross the road to catch the bus....

Other issues were discussed as well with Senators Joe Scarnati and John Rafferty, Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee, and State Representative Marty Causer.
