Lt. Governor Jim Cawley has a secret he wants everyone to start spreading: There's a primary election coming up in two weeks. Obviously, this is not a real secret but Cawley says too many people are focused on issues other than the election and -- speaking at the McKean County Republican Party annual spring dinner Tuesday -- he urged people to help turn the focus of others back to the election. President, senator, congressman, attorney general, and auditor general are among the offices being contested in the April 24 primary. Also speaking Tuesday were state Senator Joe Scarnati and Representatives Marty Causer, Kathy Rapp and Matt Gabler. Causer and Rapp noted that the new updated legislsative maps are expected to be released Wednesday. In the last maps, which were rejected by the state Supreme Court, Rapp's 65th District would no longer include McKean County. That part of the county would have gone to Causer's 67th District. GOP Presidential Candidate Rick Santorum announced he's suspending his presidential campaign. He made the announcement at a press conference in Gettysburg. Santorum is a former U.S. Senator from the Pennsylvania. Mitt Romney issued this statement: "Senator Santorum is an able and worthy competitor, and I congratulate him on the campaign he ran. He has proven himself to be an important voice in our party and in the nation. US Senate candidate Sam Rohrer will hold a Town Hall meeting at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Masonic Center on South Avenue. The Republican is hoping to get the nomination and run against incumbent Bob Casey, a Democrat, in the fall. Rohrer, who is from Berks County, is a former member of the state House of Representatiaves. Before the event in Bradford, he will be at Hoss's Restaurant in St. Marys for "Coffee with Sam" from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Other declared Republican candidates are: Tim Burns, former business owner from Eighty Four; David Christian, a Bucks County businessman; Bedford County pharmacist John Kensinger II; Marc Scaringi, a lawyer and former Rick Santorum aide who's been running for about a year; former coal company owner Tom Smith, of Armstrong County; retired Army colonel John Vernon, of Tioga County; and Chester County entrepreneur Steven Welch. Former Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA) announced today that his campaign for president has been endorsed by 15 Pennsylvania State Senators, including former Lieutenant Governor and current State Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati.
