ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Director of Athletics Steve Watson announced today the hiring of Dr. Heather McDivitt for the position of Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Support and Student Services. Megan Van Tatenhove has also re-joined the Department of Athletics to assist McDivitt as an Academic Coordinator. McDivitt, an Olean, N.Y. native and Portville Central High School graduate completed her undergraduate degree at Grove City College and received a Masters in Education from SUNY Buffalo. After teaching elementary school for four years, she returned to graduate school. She received a Masters of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary and a PhD from the University of Edinburgh, in Edinburgh, Scotland. She comes to SBU from Wingate University in North Carolina where she served as Assistant Professor of Religion. The St. Bonaventure Department of Athletics held its annual senior banquet on Wednesday evening to celebrate and honor all of its graduating student-athletes and support staff. Each year, four awards are presented: Service Award, Ray Dee Leadership Award, Merit Award (male and female) and Letterwinner Award (male and female). Below is a description of each award and the winner(s) for this year. Service Award – Matt Moretti The Service Award is presented annually to a graduating senior for outstanding service, dedication and commitment to the Department of Athletics. It may go to either a student-athlete or to a non-athlete. Moretti made an impact in the Athletics Department although he was not a student-athlete. He interned in the Sports Information Office while also working as a manager for the women’s basketball team, attending all practices and games. On the coattails of a record-breaking regular season, a trio of St. Bonaventure women's basketball players were named to Atlantic 10 All-Conference teams on Wednesday, and Jim Crowley was named the league's Coach of the Year. Seniors Jessica Jenkins and Megan Van Tatenhove were chosen to the A-10 First Team and All-Academic Team, while junior Alaina Walker earned a spot on the All-Defensive Team. Jenkins and Van Tatenhove become just the third and fourth players in program history to land on the First Team, joining Hilary Waltman and Dana Mitchell, who rank No.1 and No. 2, respectively, on the program's all-time scoring list. Walker becomes the first player in program history to be named to the All-Defensive Team – an honor incepted by the A-10 for the 2001-02 season. Following a week in which she hit a game-winning shot and recorded her seventh career double-double, Atlantic 10 Conference officials named senior Megan Van Tatenhove as the A-10 Player of the Week on Monday. Van Tatenhove hit a contested, off-handed basket with 23 seconds remaining on Saturday to complete a 15-point road comeback against Dayton. The 56-55 win kept the Bonnies (24-2, 11-0 A-10) in firm position of first place in the league, stretched their program-best winning streak to 13 straight and moved their road record to a nation-best 12-0. The Wisconsin native finished with 17 points and corralled eight rebounds against a Dayton squad which SBU held to its fewest point total in its 10 conference games. Senior Megan Van Tatenhove's basket with 23 seconds remaining capped a 15-point road comeback by No. 25/RV St. Bonaventure (24-2, 11-0 Atlantic 10 Conference) over Dayton (16-6, 8-2 A-10) as the Bonnies grabbed a stranglehold of the A-10 race with a 56-55 win Saturday afternoon. Van Tatenhove finished with a game-high 17 points and sophomore CeCe Dixon stepped up with 13 points and three 3-pointers on an afternoon when leading scorer Jessica Jenkins tallied just three points.
