Several people died following a two-vehicle collision on Route 219 near Lantz Corners Saturday afternoon. A dispatcher for Kane-based state police told WESB she couldn’t confirm the number of fatalities, but said troopers will send out a news release as soon as possible. A car and an SUV collided at about 4:15, and one of the vehicles caught fire after the crash. None of the victims has been identified yet. We’ll have more information as soon as we get it. A major sewer expansion project in McKean County that will eliminate on-going contamination problems and allow for future economic development in the area around the intersection of Routes 6 and 219 was awarded $4.8 million in state funding today (July 18), according to state Senator Joe Scarnati. The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) approved a $2,383,827 grant and a $2,424,173 low-interest loan for Hamlin Township, according to Senator Scarnati. The township plans to apply the state funding toward its Lantz Corners Comprehensive Sewer Project which includes the installation of 40,800 feet of sanitary sewer lines, 98 manholes, four pumping stations and 17 grinder pumps to serve customers in the area around Lantz Corners (intersection of Routes 6 and 219) and Campbelltown. “I am pleased PENNVEST is supporting this project that will address serious environmental problems and provide the necessary infrastructure improvements to allow businesses in Lantz Corners ...

The new owners of the FooteRest Campground & Cabins in Lantz Corners are ready to open their doors. Tom and Ellen Paladini take over today as owners of the campground, which is conveniently located on Route 219 near the intersection with scenic Pennsylvania Route 6. The campground features a total of 192 sites, including 158 camper sites, 30 tent and four cabins. Paladini plans to focus on enticing families and outdoor recreational enthusiasts to visit the region. One of his first projects at the campground will be expanding the playground and adding new fun activities for children. “We are ready to open our doors and welcome hikers, bikers and families,” Paladini said. “All are welcome.” Both Tom and his wife Ellen enjoy a variety of outdoor activities including mountain biking, kayaking and hiking. UPDATE: The woman who died is 80-year-old Bertha Ginnery of Oil City. The people who suffered major injuries are 76-year-old Thomas Ginnery of Oil City; an 11-year-old girl in the Ginnery van; 48-year-old Tina Wagoner of Salamanca; and 68-year-old Marilyn Brinkley. The driver of the SUV, Thomas Brinkley, was taken to Kane Community Hospital for treatment. One person is dead and four people suffered major injuries in a head-on collision at just after 2 o’clock this afternoon on Route 6 near Lantz Corners. Police have not released the names of the people, pending notification of family members. The crash happened as a van was traveling east on Route 6, crossed the center line and hit a westbound pickup truck. A front seat passenger in the van was killed on impact. The driver suffered major injuries and was flown to UPMC Hamot for treatment. Two back seat passengers also suffered major injuries.
