The McKean County Coroner’s Office needs your help. Coroner Mike Cahill says he is looking for relatives of Michael Spilak, who was born June, 3, 1933, maybe in Smethport. He says Spilak worked in sheltered workshops all his life and may have at least one brother. Anyone with information on heirs of Michael Spilak is asked to call Cahill at 814-362-6643. McKean County Coroner Mike Cahill is looking for information on any known relatives of 79-year-old Baby J. Whatmore of Bradford, who died of natural causes in her home on April 17. She may also be known as Rose Mercer. She may have a twin sister and may have come to the area from the Ohio or Chicago areas. A woman is dead after her car collided with a tractor-trailer this morning on Route 446 near the Pennsylvania/New York State line. State police say 26-year-old Lindsay Schmit of Grand Island, New York, was traveling north on Route 446 in Eldred Township, just north of the New York State line, at 6:15 a.m. when, for an unknown reason, her Chevy Malibu spun, crossed the center line and traveled into a tractor-trailer. Schmit was pronounced dead at the scene by McKean County Coroner Mike Cahill. One passenger, 23-year-old Christopher Johnson, suffered severe injuries and is being treated at a Buffalo hospital. The second passenger, a toddler, was thrown from the car and is also being treated for severe injuries in a Buffalo hospital. The truck driver, 53-year-old Kevin Padlo of Olean, was not hurt. A 49-year-old Smethport man is dead following a one-vehicle crash late last night on Route 6. Police say an SUV driven by James Russell was just east of Pierce Brook Road at about 11:45 p.m. when it traveled onto the north berm and hit a tree in an embankment. The vehicle then rolled over a number of times while crossing both lanes of the road. Russell was pronounced dead at the scene by McKean County Coroner Mike Cahill. McKean County Coroner Michael F. Cahill is seeking help from the public in locating any relatives of Charles Johnson who died April 25, 2013. His age was 92, and he lived at the Bushnell Apartments. His father may have been Ernest G. Johnson who died in 1973. If you have any information please call 814-362-6643.

Two people are dead after a one-vehicle crash at about 1:45 this morning on Route 6 between Smethport and Port Allegany. Police say a car driven by 30-year-old Angela Loncosky of Olean went out of control, crossed the road, hit an embankment, rolled over and hit a tree. Loncosky and her passenger, 24-year-old Lawrence Kelley of Port Allegany were pronounced dead at the scene by McKean County Coroner Mike Cahill.

Criminal homicide charges against the Bradford man accused of drowning a woman and her infant her daughter have been bound to court following a preliminary hearing that lasted a little more than an hour this afternoon. 38-year-old Waide Nolf is accused of killing 24-year-old Tonya Haight and 3 ½-week old Tamara Haight on March 19 in the Pleasant Street house they shared with several other people. District Judge Dom Cercone presided over the hearing that was held at the McKean County Courthouse in Smethport. Bradford City Police Chief Chris Lucco, Cpl. Mark Russo of the Pennsylvania State Police and McKean County Coroner Mike Cahill testified for the Commonwealth. Nolf is being held in McKean County Jail without bail. State police are investigating the death of an inmate at the McKean County Jail. 20-year-old Robert Hearst V died sometime between 1:20 and 5:08 this morning. A corrections officer discovered him while making rounds. Police say their initial investigation revealed no signs of foul play, but an autopsy is scheduled. Police were assisted by McKean County Coroner Mike Cahill, the McKean County Sheriff's Department and Priority Care EMS.
