A book chronicling the rich 50-year history of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford has been published, and current president Dr. Livingston Alexander and former president Dr. Richard E. McDowell will autograph copies at a book signing next week on campus. The book-signing event, being held to mark the release of the book, “A History of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford,” will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday, April 25, in the Frame-Westerberg Commons. The event will begin with brief remarks by Alexander and McDowell in the Commons’ first-floor lobby. Following the remarks, Alexander and McDowell will move to the Panther Shop, where they will sign books. A new endowment funded by its namesake will ensure the upkeep of the Bromeley Family Theater at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. The university received the $250,000 gift from the Pembroke Foundation and Jean H. and Thomas R. Bromeley and their children, Pamela B. and Donald J. Fredeen, and Amy B. and Daniel P. McCune, for the maintenance of the university’s theater, which is also named for the Bromeley family. The Pembroke Foundation is a family foundation originally established by Jean Bromeley’s parents, Corliss R. and Mary S. Hostetler. “It’s a lovely facility,” Thomas Bromeley said of the theater. “I think it is a good idea to develop a fund that can maintain and help keep it first class. It’s very easy to postpone maintenance when budgets are tight.” The Bromeley Family Theater is a 500-seat theater that opened in 2004 and has hosted performances ranging from intimate opera recitals to the Russian National Ballet Theat...

Bradford native and opera star Marilyn Horne will visit the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford from Oct. 6-8 to discuss the donation of her archives to the university. The discussion will center on the second phase of her donation, which would include her personal archives. Earlier this year, her foundation, the Marilyn Horne Foundation, donated its archives to Pitt-Bradford. Those are currently in storage at University of Pittsburgh Archives Services Center in Pittsburgh, which is also home to the archives of former Pennsylvania governor and U.S. Attorney General Dick Thornburgh. The center will also help with the processing, digitizing and managing of the collection. Although several other institutions, including the Library of Congress, had sought the archives, Horne is now in discussions with only Pitt-Bradford. “As a native of Bradford, Marilyn has a soft spot in her heart for her hometown and the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford,” said Dr. Livingston Alexander, ...

Thomas R. Bromeley of Derrick City, who has served as the chairman of the Bradford Educational Foundation for nearly 20 years, will receive the Presidential Medal of Distinction, the university’s highest honor. “This award is a fitting tribute to a man who has made monumental contributions to Pitt-Bradford and the surrounding communities,” said Dr. Livingston Alexander, president of Pitt-Bradford. “During his 20 years of service as chairman of the foundation, Mr. Bromeley shepherded the distribution of millions of dollars in support of scholarships for students at Pitt-Bradford and in support of construction projects and academic programs.
