An inmate assaulted a corrections officer at SCI-Forest last week. Marienville-based state police say at about 1:30 on Friday afternoon the 35-year-old inmate cut the corrections officer with an unknown object. The cut required six stitches. An inmate stabbed two corrections officers at the state correctional institution in Forest County Saturday morning. State police in Marienville say the 22-year-old man used a sharpened piece of hard plastic to stab a 28-year-old and a 48-year-old officer at about 8:15 a.m. Both men were treated at Clarion Hospital, and then released. Police have not released the inmate’s named, but say aggravated assault charges are pending. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Two motorcyclists were hurt in a crash late last Wednesday night on Main Street in Sheffield. State police say that at 11:15 p.m. 55-year-old David Frost of Marienville suddenly slowed his motorcycle down, and then a bike driven by 50-year-old Gregory Bloom of Marienville hit the first bike. The collision caused both drivers to lose control of their motorcycles and crash. Both men were taken by ambulance to Warren General Hospital, where they were treated for head injuries. An inmate at SCI-Forest in Marenville apparently hit another inmate in the head several times with a lock tied to a sock. The assault on the 50-year-old inmate happened this morning. State police haven’t released any other details yet. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Are you a veteran who enjoys pheasant hunting? Then you’re in luck, because the National Wild Turkey Federation’s (NWTF) second annual Veterans Hunt still has openings. The hunt is scheduled for Tuesday, November, 12, 2013, at Buzzard Swamp on the Allegheny National Forest. The event is free of charge and is open to veterans of any age. Physical limitations should not be a deterrent, as organizers will have the ability to let people with limited mobility enjoy the hunting experience. Veterans participating in the hunt will need a valid Pennsylvania hunting license and the required orange apparel. Participants are encouraged to bring their own shotguns, but a limited number of shotguns will be available. The hunt will be staged out of the Veterans Club of Forest County located off of Route 66 just north of Marienville. Check-in starts at 8 a.m. and will be followed by a safety briefing. Police have released more information about the teenager who allegedly stole an SUV and took troopers on a chase onto Interstate 80. They say the 17-year-old boy took the keys to an SUV belonging to a Kane woman Sunday night at the Abraxas facility in Marienville, then drove on routes 66 and 322, where a trooper saw him and followed him onto Interstate 80. The boy lost control in Jefferson County at around 10:45 p.m., crashed into a guardrail and hit another vehicle. The people in the other vehicle were not hurt. The teen was taken to Brookville Hospital and, when he was released, was taken back to Cornell Abraxas. He is facing charges of escape, fleeing and eluding, theft and assault. Warren, Pa. – The Allegheny National Forest announced today the temporary closure of a specific connector trail to the Allegheny Snowmobile Loop. Due to resource concerns in the area, snowmobile connector trail #12 located on Forest Road 226 in Forest County (the Marienville Bypass) will be closed effective immediately. Connector trail #11 does remain open and provides access to those same areas as the closed connector. A Tionesta woman has been charged in connection to the drug overdose death of a Marienville man. 55-year-old Susie Smith is charged with drug delivery resulting in death for allegedly supplying 52-year-old Richard Riggs Jr. with fentanyl. Riggs was found dead in his home on November 11. Smith is in Warren County Jail on $500,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 17. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947
