Menorah Lighting at the State Capitol
Governor Tom Corbett assists in lighting the Menorah in the Capitol Wednesday evening, and later hands out candy to children who attended the ceremony.Sponsored by Chabad Lubavitch, the Capitol Hanukkah celebration featured music by the children’s choir of Silver Academy, traditional holiday food and activities for the children. Corbett Joins Hanukkah Celebration

Gov. Rendell's Hanukkah Message
Harrisburg – Governor Edward G. Rendell today expressed his gratitude and appreciation in marking the observance of Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, which will be celebrated starting tonight. “Americans of all faiths are fortunate to have the freedoms that we enjoy today. First and foremost, I’d like to recognize our military heroes for ensuring that we remain protected,” said Governor Rendell. “I also want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all the emergency personnel, here in Pennsylvania and throughout our great nation, for keeping us safe.” In Harrisburg, Hanukkah will be celebrated at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 13, at the War Veterans memorial Fountain on the Capitol East Wing Plaza. Sponsored by the organization Chabad-Lubavitch, the event will feature live music, dancing, clowns, balloons, Hanukkah gifts, and latkes, a traditional Chanukah delicacy. Hanukkah Concert Set for Dec. 9 at
St. Bonaventure's Quick Center
The Shul Band will perform a concert of klezmer music at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec., 9, at St. Bonaventure University’s Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts. The concert is being presented by Temple B’Nai Israel of Olean. Klezmer music originated in the middle ages in the villages and slums of Eastern Europe where itinerant Jewish troubadours, known as “klezmorim,” performed at joyful events, particularly weddings and holiday celebrations. The klezmorim, through contact with Slavonic, Greek, Turkish, Arabic, Gypsy and even American jazz musicians, generated a very diversified music, easily recognizable and widely appreciated all around the world. Today it can best be described as world music. The Shul Band is based at the historic Angel Orensanz Foundation for the Arts, New York City’s oldest still-standing synagogue, where it performs regularly for the Shabbath services.
