Walmart Employees Steal Deli Food
Three employees of the Warren Walmart are facing charges for under ringing a total of more than more than $1,000 worth of deli food. Police say Yvonne Wolfe stole $636 dollars’ worth of deli food; Amy Jenkins, $360; and Alexis Summer, $100. They’re all from Warren. Austin Hanson of Sheffield is accused of stealing $168 worth of deli food. Walmart’s loss prevention personnel conducted an internal investigation over a period of several months. Duke Center Man Hurt in
Crash That Closed Route 59
A Duke Center man was hurt and Route 59 was closed for about 6 hours after a tractor-trailer crashed just east of Kinzua Dam this morning. Police tell WESB 44-year-old Todd Barrett was headed east and going around a curve when the tractor rolled onto its passenger side and hit a guiderail. The impact caused the semi-trailer’s tank to rupture and spill diesel fuel. Barrett was taken to Warren General Hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Clarendon and Glade volunteer firefighters, Warren County Emergency Management, PennDOT, the US Forest Service, Army Corps of Engineers and Red Cross were among the agencies on the scene. Tanker Crashes Near Kinzua Dam
UPDATE: 3:30 PM -- Route 59 has re-opened. UPDATE: PennDOT says the road will be closed at least until "early evening." They have posted detours using US Route 6 and Route 321. A tanker carrying diesel fuel crashed on Route 59 just east of Wolf Run Marina this morning. The driver was able to get out safely, with only minor injuries, but the tank is leaking. Conservation Districts Get Grant Money
Agencies in McKean, Elk, Warren and Potter counties are among those sharing more than $300,000 in grant money that will go toward educating young people about environmental issues. Conservations districts in McKean, Elk and Potter counties will all receive $3,000, as will the Austin Area and Warren County school districts. The Department of Environmental Protection says the money will be used for a variety of initiatives, including summer camps, farm field days and exploratory learning activities. Camping Season Draws Near
CLARENDON – The Chapman State Park campground will officially open for the 2015 camping season beginning Friday, April 10 to accommodate trout fishermen. The April 10 opening includes all campsites in the lower loop, camping cottages, and yurts. Sites in the lower loop are now open to pets. Upper loop campsites will open May 15, 2015. Reservations can be made online and through the PA State Parks call center up to 11 months in advance, or at the park office the day of arrival only. Facilities available for reservations include campsites, camping cottages, yurts, organized group tenting area, pavilions, and an amphitheater. Chapman State Park’s campground is a beautiful wooded site and consists of three camping cottages, two yurts, and 82 campsites that vary from secluded tent only sites to 100 foot camping spurs with 50 amp electric hook-ups. Suspected Meth Maker Missing
A man scheduled to go on trial next week for running a meth lab in a public housing unit is missing, and is now at the top of Warren County’s “Most Wanted” list. A warrant was issued for 28-year-old Matthew Esterbrook after he didn’t show up for a court appearance last week. Jury selection for his trial is scheduled to start Monday. Outhouse Races Set for Winterfest
The Winterfest Event Committee announced today that a new event will happen at this year’s Winterfest for the first time. The new event is the Outhouse Races which are scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM on Sunday January 18th at 2:00 PM at Chapman State Park. The event is designed to be both a fundraiser to help support the Winterfest Event and a humorous, but competitive addition to the slate of events at Winterfest. The event will basically involve a five person team racing a cut down version of an outhouse mounted on cross country skis. The team will consist of one rider sitting on the throne in the outhouse with two team members pushing the outhouse and two people pulling the outhouse by attached ropes. Each team will be timed for covering the 50 yard race course. Team contestants must be a minimum of 18 years old, except that the rider on the throne can be a minimum of ten years old, provided that a parent is also a participant in the event. Split Verdict in Probation Officer Trial
A jury came back with a split decision in the trial of a probation officer accused of making sexual advances toward at least three women he was supervising. 38-year-old Jeffrey Collins of Kane was found guilty of two counts of indecent assault, two counts of official oppression, and one count of harassment. He was found not guilty of one count of indecent assault and count of harassment. The jury was deadlocked on another count of indecent assault. While working as a probation officer in Warren County, Collins was accused of exposing his genitals and engaging in sexual activity in front of one of the women while she was in his office. He also allegedly asked them to take photos or videos of themselves having sex in exchange for favorable consideration involving their probation. Collins’ lawyer argued that the women – quote – wanted it until it became inconvenient. He also compared the situation to that of former President Bill Clinton, saying he was never charged and obviously had ...
