Ca$h Mob Bradford made it's first "hit" on Saturday at Timeless Treasures on Chestnut Street. 28 mobsters – including 26 adults and 2 children - met at the Bradford Area Chamber of Commerce office, where Timeless Treasures was announced as the first Ca$h Mob Bradford target, and then the group headed to the Chestnut Street store to do their shopping. The new Ca$h Mob Bradford program is organized by the Bradford Area Chamber of Commerce as a way to stimulate the economy and support locally owned businesses. The idea was put into action after a local resident shared information about the Grove City Area Chamber of Commerce’s successful cash mob program with Bradford Area Chamber of Commerce staff. Ca$h Mob Bradford will target a different BACC member business each month, with mobsters each spending $20 or more in cash at the target--which is not announced until the day of the event. One of the things Bradfordians do best is support each other. With that in mind, the Bradford Area Chamber of Commerce will be starting Ca$h Mob Bradford next month to help support locally owned businesses. The purpose of a Ca$h Mob is to have as many people as possible target one locally owned business on a specific day and spend at least $20. The target business will be announced on the day the mobsters will visit. Presented by the Bradford Area Chamber of Commerce and Signature Sponsor American Refining Group, Inc, the BACC Oktoberfest/21st Annual Public Auction will be held on Thursday, October 24th at The Bradford Club, 32 Boylston Street, Bradford. This community event, open to the public, is the Chamber’s primary fundraiser, with proceeds supporting the many services provided by the Chamber. The doors open at 5:30 pm; with the live auction beginning at 6:30pm. Through the generous donation of products, services, and more, an exciting variety of items has been put together for the event, which will feature approximately 30 fantastic live auction packages, as well as silent auctions, pretzel drawings, and a 50/50 card drawing. Representatives from Safe Kids McKean County are promoting youth safety and injury prevention with presentations to more than 200 sixth- and seventh-grade students in the Health and Wellness classes at Fretz Middle School. "Our students had the wonderful opportunity to have a great presentation on many imperative safety topics,” said Health and Physical Education Educator Judy Abbey, B.S. M.Ed. “It is important to use our community resources to help explain the importance of safety and awareness to all youth in our school district. CARE for Children staff spoke to students about bike safety and the importance of wearing a helmet, demonstrating through the use of a coconut crusher the potential damage that could be sustained in the case of an accident without the use of a helmet; youth sports safety including concussions, hydration and proper rest and training techniques. Northwest Savings Bank on Main Street hosted the Bradford Area Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours on Thursday. Mexican food and beverages -- in recognition of Cinco de Mayo -- were provided by the Bradford Club. People and businesses who are not Chamber members should think about joining.
