Leandra’s Law charges have been filed against a Portville man accused of driving under the influence with his 1-year-old and 5-year-old children in the vehicle when he crashed the vehicle. Police say 25-year-old Shane Rice crashed the vehicle early Tuesday morning in Seneca Avenue in Olean. Rice and the children were taken to Olean General Hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. Besides aggravated DWI, Rice was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and driving without a license. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

A Texas man convicted of conspiring with several other people to sell drugs in Cattaraugus County has been sentenced to 12 1/5 years in federal prison. Starting in January of 2010 52-year-old Richard Garza of Houston conspired with James Leon, Richard Himbury, Daniel Garza and others. On November 15, 2011, Special Agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration and members of the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at James Leon's home the Town of Coldspring, where they found a grocery bag full of marijuana in the living room and a canister containing about four ounces of cocaine in the bathroom. A Kill Buck woman is accused of selling crack cocaine. The Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force say 29-year-old Leah Thomas sold the crack in Great Valley in January. She’s charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance. Also, the task force picked up 33-year-old Jermaine Bordeaux of Buffalo on a parole warrant. Two people were found with heroin Friday night in the Save A Lot parking lot in Salamanca. The Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force says they searched a car that 25-year-old Jeremy Foster of Salamanca was a passenger in and learned he had a quantity of heroin. He was wanted for selling drugs in December in the city. Also during the search, they found that 31-year-old Joshua Turybury of Little Valley had heroin. A third person was released from the police department for medical reasons. Police say the investigating is continuing and more arrests are pending. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Two Potter County residents are in jail after their indoor marijuana growing operation was discovered Thursday in Genesee Township. State police executed a search warrant at 214 Main Street in Genesee and then seized 197 marijuana plants, two pounds of processed marijuana and numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia. Then they arrested 46-year-old Matthew Andrews and 36-year-old Chelah Ryan. They’re both jailed on $100,000 bail. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Harrisburg – The Wolf Administration today announced that the Pennsylvania State Police would begin carrying the life-saving opioid overdose reversal antidote, naloxone. Naloxone, also known by the brand name “Narcan” is a prescription medicine that rapidly reverses heroin and other opioid overdoses. Heroin and opioid overdose are the leading cause of accidental death in Pennsylvania, killing more people than fatal motor vehicle accidents. In 2013, about 2,400 Pennsylvanians died from a drug overdose. “Pennsylvanians are dying every day from drug overdose, so it is critical to have naloxone in the hands of our state police and first responders who may be first on the scene of an overdose situation,” said the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs Acting Secretary Gary Tennis. “We are grateful for the donations and support that we have received from the health insurance community to ensure we have naloxone available statewide. Four people, including an Olean man, have been arrested by the Pennsylvania attorney general’s office for trafficking a quarter of a million dollars’ worth of marijuana. The AG’s office says 33-year-old Andrew Kubiak of Olean, 31-year-old John Nelson and Meadville, 39-year-old Jessica Clark of Erie and 29-year-old Nicole Nelson of Santa Rosa California, conspired to buy bulk quantities of marijuana and take it to Meadville. According to the grand jury’s presentment, Nicole Nelson bought a car in Erie that she and Clark drove to Santa Rosa, where it was packed with 85 pounds of marijuana. Kubiak met the women in Sacramento. He and Clark were going to deliver the marijuana to Nelson’s brother, John, but they were picked up by police in Kansas. John Nelson is in Crawford County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. Kubiak and Clark were released on $25,000 unsecured bond. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Nicole Nelson. Some moms will do anything for their kids, but one Pittsburgh mother is facing up to 20 years in prison for helping her son. The thing is, 45-year-old Carrie Robinson decided that while her son was in jail for selling heroin, she’d keep his business going and sell what he had left. A man scheduled to go on trial next week for running a meth lab in a public housing unit is missing, and is now at the top of Warren County’s “Most Wanted” list. A warrant was issued for 28-year-old Matthew Esterbrook after he didn’t show up for a court appearance last week. Jury selection for his trial is scheduled to start Monday. Police say Esterbrook could be in Elk County. One of his co-defendants, George Heatherdale, is from Brookville. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Charges against a man accused of threatening a confidential informant with the McKean County Drug Task Force have been bound to court following a preliminary hearing. 27-year-old Alex Ita of Bradford is accused of telling the person there would be consequences if he showed up in court to testify against him. He also allegedly told a female associate of the informant that he knew the person “ratted him out.” In the drug case, Ita is accused of selling 3.5 grams of cocaine and setting up the deal by way of cell phone. He’s scheduled to appear in court next week for that case. He’s in jail without bail on the intimidation charge. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Heroin, a weapon and marijuana were found during a raid of a Salamanca house. The Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force found the drugs and a .40-caliber Glock 27 handgun at 94 Jefferson Street, where they arrested 19-year-old Thomas Oldshield. Police say the serial number of the gun had been removed. They also found, and removed, ammunition for the gun. They also found counterfeit money. A Coudersport couple is accused of having a marijuana growing operation at their home. 50-year-old Stacey Amidon and 46-year-old Susan Amidon of Toad Hollow Road are each charged with a number of violations of the state’s drug laws. The man who says he robbed the Dan Horn Pharmacy in Olean Tuesday is behind bars. Police 27-year-old Shawn Deahn of Olean confessed to the crime. He was sent to jail on $5,000 bail. Deahn did not show a weapon during the robbery, but gave the clerk a note demanding Suboxone pills. After getting four pills, he ran away, but turned himself in on Thursday. A Bradford man arrested on drug charges after police were called to a domestic incident at his home has waived his preliminary hearing. 21-year-old Justin Herbstritt was charged on New Year’s Eve after police went to his South Center Street home for the domestic incident and then smelled marijuana. They eventually found 30 grams of marijuana, two grinders, a digital scale,l a small baggie of marijuana and two glass bowls. Herbstritt is free on unsecured bail. Olean Police have release a surveillance camera image of the man who robbed the Dan Horn Pharmacy Tuesday morning. The white man is 18 to 28 years old. He walked into the Greene Street store at just after 9 a.m. and handed the clerk a note demanding Suboxone. After the clerk gave him the drug, he left the store on foot headed toward the intersection of East Greene and South Barry streets. He did not display a weapon. A woman accused of selling heroin, oxycodone, hydrocodone and Fentanyl to agents with the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force is facing a number of charges. 38-year-old Nealie Lindsler-Crowley of Buffalo was arrested over the weekend in Salamanca in connection to incidents from January to August of last year. Lindsler-Crowley is in Cattaraugus County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Some of the charges against a Bradford nurse practitioner accused of writing prescriptions she wasn’t authorized to write have been dismissed by the McKean County District Attorney’s office. 54-year-old Darlene Venezia-Skaggs had been charged by the state attorney general’s office for leaving a prescription pad in the office of Medicor Associates after she was terminated so her patients could still get prescriptions for controlled substances. Court papers say she told agent Heather Dunkle she was concerned that her patients would not get the medication they needed after she was terminated because Dr. Steven Hermann would rarely write prescriptions for controlled substances. She had been scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Tuesday. The charges were dismissed today. District Attorney Ray Learn tells WESB this set of charges was withdrawn as part of a plea agreement in another case, where she is accused of writing a prescription for a former patient and then delivering to him. Two people accused of being heroin dealers were picked up in Warren Monday. Police say Shane Williams and Shauna Hanson, both of Warren, were arrested following a four-month investigation by the Warren County Drug Task Force into heroin trafficking. Hanson was arrested at the couple’s Hemlock Street home, while Williams was taken into custody outside his workplace. The task force says the pair sold heroin to undercover agents. One of the members of the task force is the US Forest Service. Williams and Hanson are jailed on $35,000 bail each. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

A Bradford woman is facing a drug charge in Cattaraugus County after a raid of an Olean house over the weekend. Police say they found heroin, marijuana and drug paraphernalia at the home of 30-year-old Timothy Lunn. He’s charged criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument and related offenses. 24-year-old Caitlyn Stein of High Street is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.
