A malnourished and injured horse had to be put to sleep after it was found on Deering Road in Summit Township on Monday. State police in Coudersport say the horse did not have appropriate food, water or shelter, and also had a number of injuries they suspect were from neglect. A veterinarian said the horse had to be euthanized because of the injuries. Police are continuing their investigation, and animal cruelty charges are pending. A man says he shot and killed his neighbor’s dog because he was annoyed with the animal’s barking. Chautauqua County Sheriff’s deputies a man had been looking for his dog Jake for several days and while searching wooded areas and fields he found an area of loosed unearthed soil, started digging and found the dead dog. The property where the dog was found belongs to 46-year-old Robert Rearick of Gerry, who told police he shot the dog because it was barking near his home, and then he buried Jake in his field. Rearick is facing a number of charges related to animal cruelty and is scheduled to appear in Town of Gerry Court. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

There’s a disturbing story out of Wyoming County, New York, involving sexual abuse of children and cruelty to animals. State police say 23-year-old Robert DeCarr of Gainesville sexually abused a 9-year-old in girl 2006 and a 13-year-old girl in May of this year. Also in May he allegedly tried to inappropriately touch an 11-year-old girl. When troopers went to his home on Saturday to arrest him they found a cage on the porch with three emaciated puppies and one dead puppy in it. They say the living puppies were infested with fleas, and possible had other diseases. The three puppies were taken to a vet clinic but troopers say it’s unclear yet if they will survive. DeCarr is charged with sexual abuse, endangering the welfare of a child, cruelty to animals and neglect of an animal. He’s jailed on $50,000 bail. Another person in the house, 20-year-old Thomas Hyde is also charged with cruelty to animals and neglect of an animal. He was released with an appearance ticket for Gainesville T...

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office is investigating a possible animal cruelty case. On Sunday, Sheriff’s deputies got a report of a dog found hanging from a bridge on Underwood Road in Hinsdale. The dog is male and either a terrier or terrier mix with a brown face, black back and brown legs and weighs 20 to 25 pounds. The dog was wearing a camouflage collar when it was found. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the sheriff’s office. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947
