Bradford High’s Ashton McGriff broke the school record in the 400 during Friday’s PIAA Track & Field championships in Shippensburg. She not only broke the previous record set in 1996 – she shattered it by nearly a full second. And, she’s only a freshman. Unfortunately, she just missed out on a berth in the finals. Her sister Brooke competes in the pole vault today. Also yesterday, Kane’s Savannah Anderson medaled in the pole vault in Class AA. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

As you probably know, the Owls are hosting Brookville tonight. Well, anyone going to the game is being asked to wear yellow – a shirt, a scarf, a hat, anything – to support Aiden Davis, a little Bradford boy who is battling cancer. City of Bradford Police will be presenting Aiden with a few things during halftime, and Aiden is expected to say a few words to the crowd as well. Multiple suspects have been arrested in connection with recent bomb threats made at the Brookville Area High School. Brookville Area School District Superintendent Dr. Robin Fillman released a statement this afternoon saying potential charges include misdemeanors and felonies, and restitution could be as much at $35,000 to cover costs to the school district and emergency responders. Although no information about the suspects has been released, Fillman’s statement says the school district’s discipline code states that consequences will result in a full year of expulsion. Since October 3, three bomb threats have been made at the school, causing officials to evacuate students each time. The first prompted the school district to reschedule a football game. Something special will be happening before tonight’s Karns City High School football game. Hall of Fame and former Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly will be recognized as part of the hall’s effort to honor the hometown roots of its members. Kelly will take part in the coin toss before the game, present the school with a check, and be honored with a plaque that will stay at the school. Signs will be erected throughout East Brady, where Kelly went to school, and Karns City, welcoming visitors to the home of Jim Kelly. The events are taking place in Karns City because East Brady High School closed about 20 years ago. On a side note, Karns City beat Franklin last week 62-7. Franklin is visiting the Owls tonight. Tyler Wilber and Anthony Zimbardi, senior varsity basketball players at Bradford Area High School, held a three-on-three co-ed basketball tournament on Sunday to benefit therapeutic recreation activities for children with disabilities. Twelve teams comprised of 48 student players participated in the round robin tournament. The winning team was Dave & the Foxy Ladies. Over $600 has been raised to date and will be donated to CARE for Children. The three-on-three tournament was part of Wilber and Zimbardi's Senior Project. Bradford High is sponsoring rooters buses for students and the community to Saturday’s playoff games in Clarion. Sign up today and tomorrow at the Athletic Directors office and get a $5 McDonald’s gift card. It’s FREE for students and anyone in the community who wants to go. The Bradford High boys and girls basketball teams will host a playoff doubleheader Friday night. The top-seeded Lady Owls will host 4th seeded Punxsutawney at 6pm on WESB and WESB.com . The Lady Owls swept the Lady Chucks, including last Friday night's win at Punxsy that earned the Bradford girls a perfect 22-0 regular season. The Owls will entertain the #3 seeded Clearfield Bison at 7:30pm, also on 1490 WESB. It will be the first meeting of the season between the Owls and Bison. The 2012 Bradford Owls football schedule is out. The Owls will be playing this fall in Region 5 of Distrcit 10. Region five includes, Oil City, Warren, Slippery Rock, Dubois, Franklin and Meadville. Longtime Bradford Owls basketball Coach Dave Fuhrman is calling it quits. Fuhrman informed his team and staff at a meeting this morning at Bradford High that he is stepping down. The Owls were 22-3 this past season winning the D9 league Title, District 9 AAA championship and a state playoff game too. Fuhrman coached the Owls for 20 seasons and sports a 340-171 record. The Bradford Owls travel to Warren tonight to battle the Dragons in a non league basketball matchup. Owls pregame on the air at 7:20 with Dave Fuhrman’s coaches show on 1490 WESB and on the web at WESB.com . Warren is 2-0 and the Owls are 1-0. Voice of the Owls Frank Williams and Tom Bowes will call the game.

The Bradford Owls won the Hickory Wrestling Tournament over the weekend. The Owls had two champions with Mark Havers and Jake McMurtrie both going 6-0. Evan Smith placed second with a 6-2 record. Zach Britton placed second with a 7-1 record and Zach Smith placed second with a 7-1 record too. For details on tournament scoring, click here .

Bradford High Cross Country and Track Coach Tom Tessena looks at the plaque bearing his name at GGB Cross Country Course. Bradford Area High School has received an honorable mention in The Harrisburg Patriot-News high school football rankings for this week. Thomas Jefferson is the top-ranked AAA School. Cameron County received an honorable mention in Class A.

Our own Frank Williams -- Voice of the Owls -- was the master of ceremonies for Wednesday's Meet the Owls Night at Parkway Field. Following Monday night's Bradford Area School Board meeting, Bradford High Athletic Dirctor Tim Walter congratulates Jeff Puglio on his his unanimous appointment as new Bradford Owls Head Varsity Football Coach. Director of Human Resources Sam Johnson explained that the district advertised locally, and statewide, for the position. A committee including Johnson, Walter, BAHS Principal Ken Coffman and two board members reviewed the applications. Puglio also met with school superintendent Sandra Romanowski for her approval before his name was brought before the board. When addressing the board, Puglio said he plans to "be the face of the program, not just with the high school teams, but throughout the entire community." "It will be my responsibility to make sure my players understand that I'm teaching them about life so when they leave Bradford high, and leave Bradford high football, they're not only ready to prepare for college, but for the rest of their lives,...
