No one was hurt in a two-vehicle crash on a slippery Route 6 in Mount Jewett this morning. State police say a pickup truck driven by 35-year-old Jose Rodriguez-Zapata of Pasadena, Texas, was traveling west near Pete Lane when it went out of control on the snow- and ice-covered road, spun around, and went into the opposite lane of travel, where it rear-ended a car driven by 68-year-old James McCormack of Mount Jewett. A new “Boil Water” order has been issued for Mount Jewett. Borough officials were notified last night by several residents of a loss in pressure. A man and woman from Mount Jewett are accused of trying to kill a dog. 34-year-old Tyler Rush and 24-year-old Ashley Reinard are each charged with cruelty to animals in connection to an August 8 incident when Reinard allegedly told Rush to kill a dog that had been injured because she said there was no saving it. According to court records, Rush tried to snap the dog’s neck, and when that didn’t work he tried to cut its throat with a pocket knife. The dog survived. Harassment charges have been filed against three Mount Jewett residents after one of them refused to leave the home of the others Sunday morning. Police say 30-year-old Krystle Causer was asked to leave the home of 29-year-old Ryan McClellen and 27-year-old Yvonne Bush, but wouldn’t, and a fight broke out. Causer is charged with assault harassment and trespassing. McClellen and Bush are each charged with assault harassment. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

UPDATE from state police: The incident happened at 7:12 a.m. in Hamlin Township (the Mount Jewett area) while students were waiting for their bus. Troopers strongly encourage parents to accompany their children while they wait for their bus. Police ask that anyone with information about this incident call 814-778-5555. The Kane School District has sent a message to parents saying an unmarked white van tried to pick up a student in the Mount Jewett area this morning. The student did not recognize the driver and ran away. All the buses and vans the school district uses are marked. State police believe this is credible and are investigating. We're not sure yet if this is related to the incidents in Foster Township and the Mount Jewett area in September of last year. They also involved a white van. A woman is accused of putting a nine-year-old boy in a choke hold. Police say 30-year-old Jamie Jackson of Mount Jewett also pushed the boy’s head into a door, causing a goose egg on his head and scratches on his neck. The alleged incident happened in October at Jackson’s former home in Derrick City. Jackson is charged with assault and is free on $10,000 unsecured bail. UPDATE: A 27-year-old man who was working on the new Kinzua Bridge State Park Visitors Center accidentally shot himself in the leg Wednesday afternoon. Police say the Cuba, New York, man who they did not name was sitting in his vehicle when the gun went off as he was moving it. The bullet hit his left hamstring and went out of his leg through the calf. The site supervisor heard the shot, saw the man slumped near his vehicle and used a belt as a tourniquet to stop the bleeding. An off-duty paramedic who was visiting the park also helped in treating the man, who was eventually flown to UPMC Hamot. ~~~ An accidental shooting has been reported at Kinzua Bridge State Park. A landing zone for a trauma patient has been set up in the park’s overflow parking lot. The incident happened at about 3:40 p.m. We’ll have more information as it becomes available. The man accused of sleeping on a table in the kitchen of a Mount Jewett restaurant while he was drunk has waived his preliminary hearing. Police say, earlier this month, 35-year-old William Duffy of Bradford was loitering in the parking lot of the Mountain Inn on Wilcox Road in Mount Jewett until employees left. When employees called proprietor Brenda Walker about the situation, she went to the establishment, found Duffy on the table and called police. State police are investigating several attempted burglaries in Mount Jewett. The latest happened at 10:30 this morning at 62 East Main Street in the borough at the home of Leann McAndrew. Troopers are reminding residents to be on the lookout for any suspicious activity, and to report it if they see it. A man found lying on a kitchen table at the Mountain Inn early Sunday morning is facing a couple of charges. National Fuel Gas is planning to build a pipeline from Clermont to Elma, New York. The company has started the federal review process to build the 97-mile pipeline from McKean County to the Porterville Compressor Station in Erie County. The 24-inch lines will be buried at least three feet underground, but four feet in agricultural areas. The pipeline is being built to make transportation of Marcellus Shale gas from the source to the marketplace easier. A natural gas gathering system is already in place near Mount Jewett. Minor injuries were reported after a three-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon near Tack’s Inn. Police say 51-year-old Alice Valenti of Austin was at the intersection of routes 219 and 59 when she didn’t yield the right-of-way to 46-year-old Diana Rankin of Mount Jewett and the cars collided. The impact caused Rankin’s car to cross lanes, where it was hit by a vehicle driven by Fred Angell of Bradford. Rankin suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Bradford Regional Medical Center for treatment. Valenti was cited for not stopping at a stop sign. ~~~ A Hinsdale woman was charged after a one-vehicle crash Saturday in Lafayette Township. Police say 32-year-old Jody Kenjocketty was traveling north on Route 219 when she lost control of her vehicle and drove off the road. The vehicle came to rest in a ditch. Kenjocketty and her three unnamed passengers suffered minor injuries and were taken to BRMC. Kenjocketty was cited for driving too fast for conditions. ~~~ A...

A box truck got stuck under a flatbed truck in a three-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon in Warren County. Police say the box truck driven by 18-year-old Nikalas Guadagnino of Kane hit the flatbed after failing to slow down at the intersection of Route 6 and Griff Hill Road in Mead Township. Guadagnino and his 16-year-old passenger, Ryan Alenali of Kane, had to be freed from the truck by EMS personnel, and were then taken by Star Flight and Life Star helicopters to UPMC Hamot in Erie for treatment of major injuries. After being hit by the box truck, the flatbed hit a pickup truck driven by 44-year-old Lars Olsson of Mount Jewett. Neither Olsson nor the flatbed driver, 44-year-old Scott Stillson of Warren, were hurt. Police are continuing their investigation. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

A broken down vehicle in Kane led to charges against a couple accused of running bath salts through the area. According to court papers at about 4:15 Sunday afternoon Mount Jewett Police Chief Steve Hale called Kane police to tell them about a vehicle that was broken down at the intersection of Greeves and Yarnell streets, and the two people involved may have bath salts with them. Kane Police Officer Michael Henry noticed a “roach” on the passenger side of the vehicle and soon he, Hale and State Police Corporal Ted Race searched the vehicle and found a scale with measuring bowl, several loaded hypodermic needles, a grinder with a white powdery residue in it, several small plastic bags for packaging, glass smoking apparatuses, and several pills that they could not identify during the search. Police believe a man was attempting “suicide by cop” when he told a Kane Borough Police officer to shoot him Thursday night while he was holding two knives. Officer William Nichols says he was called to Janeway Street at 7:10 p.m. for a report of a person breaking windows out of the house. When he got there, he saw the broken windows, heard a man inside screaming and saw a blood trail leading from the porch to the door. Then 42-year-old Larry Walker II walked out with two knives in his hands, according to papers faxed to WESB by District Judge David Engman’s office. Nichols immediately called for backup, and repeatedly asked Walker to drop the knives while walking backward and keeping about 15 feet between himself and Walker. The incident moved from Janeway, to Welsh Street, then to Moffit Avenue and onto Hacker Street. Steve Hale of the Mount Jewett Police Department was eventually able to use a stun gun on Walker. A man armed with two butcher knives ran after a Kane Borough police officer, who was able to hold him off until backup arrived. The suspect, 42-year-old Larry P. Walker II of Kane, was stopped when Mount Jewett Police Chief Steve Hale fired a stun gun at him. Officer Bill Nichols was not hurt in the incident Thursday. A felony charge of aggravated assault and misdemeanor counts of terroristic threats and recklessly endangering another person have been filed in District Judge David Engman's office, but Walker has not been arraigned yet. A man has pleaded guilty to running meth labs in Bradford and Mount Jewett. 38-year-old Jeffrey Cabisca was also charged with burglary for an incident in September. He’s scheduled for sentencing on April 24 in McKean County Court. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Police are looking for the person who knocked a headstone off its base at Bridge View Cemetery in Mount Jewett on Monday. They say someone lost control of a vehicle while going around a curve, went off the road, hit the headstone belonging to the Stidd family and then left the cemetery.
