Three northwestern Pennsylvanians being monitored for Ebola have not shown any symptoms. The state Department of Health says Monday was the last day of their 21-day period of monitoring, and they are still showing no signs or symptoms. The department is not disclosing any personal information about the three, except that they are from the 13-county northwestern region. Two hospitals in Buffalo are among 10 in New York State designated to treat Ebola patients. ECMC and Women and Children’s Hospital have agreed to care for potential Ebola patients, according to Governor Andrew Cuomo. New York State’s Ebola plan calls for designated hospitals statewide, which are equipped for the isolation, identification, and treatment of Ebola patients, to handle all Ebola cases. Cuomo’s office said the designation of Ebola treatment centers does not lessen the need for all hospitals to be able to appropriately and rapidly identify, isolate, diagnose and stabilize suspect Ebola patients. Three Pennsylvanians who were on a flight from Cleveland to Dallas with a nurse who tested positive for Ebola are being monitored in Texas. Governor Tom Corbett said today that the three people are not showing symptoms of Ebola and aren't being quarantined. He says the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention interviewed them and they are free to return to Pennsylvania. The state's isn't disclosing personal information about them. Olean General Hospital (OGH) and Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC), member hospitals of Upper Allegheny Health System (UAHS), are following the protocols recommended by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the New York State Department of Health and the Pennsylvania Department of Health. The potential for seeing an Ebola patient here in our region is very small, but our first obligation is to protect the public and make any and all preparations. Since early August, all CDC information regarding Ebola has been shared with medical staff and Emergency Department staff, including online educational programs for clinical staff.
