Harrisburg – The Wolf Administration today announced that the Pennsylvania State Police would begin carrying the life-saving opioid overdose reversal antidote, naloxone. Naloxone, also known by the brand name “Narcan” is a prescription medicine that rapidly reverses heroin and other opioid overdoses. Heroin and opioid overdose are the leading cause of accidental death in Pennsylvania, killing more people than fatal motor vehicle accidents. In 2013, about 2,400 Pennsylvanians died from a drug overdose. “Pennsylvanians are dying every day from drug overdose, so it is critical to have naloxone in the hands of our state police and first responders who may be first on the scene of an overdose situation,” said the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs Acting Secretary Gary Tennis. “We are grateful for the donations and support that we have received from the health insurance community to ensure we have naloxone available statewide. Police say they found a laptop computer and two storage drives in the abandoned airplane hangar where accused cop killer Eric Frein was captured last week. Court documents released today say Frein told police he used a wireless connection to get onto the Internet while hiding from them. Frein surrendered to U.S. marshals on Thursday following a 48-day manhunt. He is facing charges for killing State Police Cpl. The Pennsylvania Senate and House of Representatives have unanimously approved legislation which will help provide the Pennsylvania State Police with additional help searching for Eric Frein, according to Senator Joe Scarnati (R-Jefferson). Eric Frein is wanted by authorities for the alleged murder of Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) Corporal Bryon K. Dickson II, and the alleged attempted murder of PSP Trooper Alex Douglass in Pike County on September 12, 2014. Scarnati, who strongly supported Senate Bill 720, explained that the bill was amended to extend the powers of arrest for out-of-state law enforcement personnel. The Pennsylvania Game Commission has lifted the temporary prohibition on hunting and trapping within some portions of Pike County that previously were closed due to the ongoing search for a fugitive wanted in the shooting death of a state police trooper. Game Commission Executive Director R. Matthew Hough today amended the executive order he issued last week, providing for the immediate reopening of all hunting and trapping seasons in all of Lehman Township, and the eastern portions of Blooming Grove and Porter townships, all of which are in Pike County. The amended order also reopens to public use most of the previously closed portion of State Game Lands 180 within Pike County. The State Game Lands 183 shooting range in Palmyra Township, Pike County, also has been reopened to public use. Meanwhile, hunting and trapping remains closed within all of Greene Township, Pike County, as well as all of Price, Barrett and Paradise townships in Monroe County. The Pennsylvania Game Commission has temporarily closed all hunting and trapping seasons within seven townships in northeastern Pennsylvania, where the search continues for a fugitive wanted in the shooting death of a state police trooper. Game Commission Executive Director R. Matthew Hough today issued an executive order to close temporarily the hunting and trapping seasons within Price, Barrett and Paradise townships in Monroe County; and Blooming Grove, Porter, Lehman and Greene townships in Pike County. The townships all are within Wildlife Management Unit 3D. The closure affects all private and public lands, including the portions of State Game Lands 180, 183 and 221 located within those townships. Police hunting for suspected cop-killer Eric Frein found two "fully functional" pipe bombs in the Pennsylvania woods. State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens said the explosives could have been detonated by a tripwire or lighted fuse, which he said was consistent with Frein's "gutless efforts to kill and injure law enforcement from a distance." At a news conference this afternoon, Bivens said search teams have also found other supplies Frein "hastily" left behind but declined to describe them. A nationwide manhunt is underway for Eric Matthew Frein, the suspect in the fatal shooting of Pennsylvania State Police Cpl. Bryon Dickson II. A funeral will be held Thursday for a Pennsylvania State Police trooper who was killed in an ambush outside his barracks. Cpl. Bryon K. Dickson II was killed and another trooper was critically wounded in the Friday night attack at the Blooming Grove barracks. UPDATE: Due to the death of Cpl. Bryon Dickson II during an ambush-style attack at the Blooming Grove station on Friday, the Purple Heart Ceremony for Trooper Bradley Wilson has been postponed. The state trooper who was shot and critically injured while serving a search warrant on a suspected meth lab near Brockway last year will be awarded a Pennsylvania State Police Purple Heart Award. Trooper Bradley Wilson will receive the award Wednesday in Punxsutawney. The incident happened on September 26 when the father of the suspect shot Wilson in the chest and neck. Trooper Bruce Morris says the gunshots resulted in significant paralysis, and Wilson’s recovery has been long and difficult, and is ongoing. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Three State Troopers have received the Pennsylvania Narcotics Officers’ Association Heroism Award for rescuing another trooper who was shot while executing a search warrant in Jefferson County last September. Corporal Dennis Ulery, Corporal Joseph Alessandro and Trooper Dustin Sosak were presented with the award, which has been given out only three other times in 25 years. On September 26, 2013, a Pennsylvania State Police Clandestine Laboratory Response Team was assisting the Troop C Vice Unit and the Jefferson County Drug Task Force with the execution of a drug search warrant just outside of Brockway. The suspect’s father shot Trooper Bradley Wilson twice in the upper chest and neck area. As troopers and officers from the Jefferson County Drug Task Force used suppression fire, the other troopers pulled Wilson away from the line of fire and moved him to a secure location. A Pennsylvania State Trooper suffered minor injuries when his cruiser flipped over while he was on his way to a domestic incident, where a firearm may have been involved. Police say 23-year-old Dylan Toy was on Route 6 about a mile west of Mount Jewett on Thursday evening when his car went out of control on a snow-covered portion of the road, and then hit an embankment and utility pole before flipping over. The Kane man accused of throwing a hammer at a state trooper has waived his preliminary hearing. Back in October, police were called to Jo Jo Road for a domestic incident, and that’s when 22-year-old Justin Feilkles allegedly threw the hammer at State Police Cpl. David Smith. Smith wasn’t hurt. A local state trooper is one of 53 being honored today for their efforts to fight drinking and driving in Pennsylvania. Trooper Robert Means will be recognized by the Pennsylvania Driving Under the Influence Association during its annual meeting in Seven Springs. The preliminary hearing for the man whose father shot and critically wounded a state trooper has been moved to next month. Kenneth Lees II had been scheduled for a hearing on felony charges of aggravated assault and fleeing or eluding police as well as a misdemeanor count of reckless endangerment and six traffic offenses. Lees’ father shot state trooper Bradley Wilson in the neck and torso as he was trying to serve a warrant on Lees’ Brockway house to look for evidence of a meth lab on September 26. After the shooting, police were looking for the younger Lees, who eventually took them on a chase that lasted nearly half an hour. Lees’ father shot and killed himself inside the house. Wilson remains hospitalized in Pittsburgh. Lees has not been charged with any drug offenses. He is in Jefferson County Jail on $75,000 bail. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

The state trooper who was shot and critically injured Thursday afternoon in Brockway is in stable condition at UPMC in Pittsburgh, but officials say he will have a long road to recovery. Officials wouldn't give specifics about Trooper Bradley Wilson's condition, but did say he is expected to survive. Wilson was shot in the neck and torso by 60-year-old Kenneth Lees Sr. as he and another trooper were attempting to execute a search warrants at Lees’ home. Lees took his own life several hours later after barricading himself inside his home. Police did not storm the house because they suspected a meth lab was operating there and the chemicals used to cook the drug are highly volatile. They had been investigating for about two weeks. Lees’ son, Kenneth Lees II, is charged with felony counts of aggravated assault and fleeing or attempting to elude police, for taking officers on a 15- to 20-mile chase Thursday night. By ANNE HOLLIDAY WESB/WBRR News Director The man who shot and critically injured a state trooper Thursday afternoon shot himself early this morning as a Special Emergency Response Team unit surrounded his Brockway home. 60-year-old Kenneth Lees Sr. was found dead inside his home when the SERT when into the house at 1 a.m. The incident began as members of the Pennsylvania State Police and the Jefferson County Drug Task Force were serving a search warrant on the occupants of the Kenneth Lees Sr. residence at 1881 Cemetery Hill Road near Brockway (about 4 minutes from the Main Street Sheetz) at about 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon. Upon approaching the front door of the residence and announcing their identity and possession of a lawful search warrant, the officers were met with gunfire from an occupant of the home.
