Bradford Area High School Senior, Michael McLanahan, has been selected as the United Way of the Bradford Area’s 2013 Excellence in Representation honoree. McLanahan, who served on the campaign Speaker’s Bureau for the 2012 solicitation efforts, represented CARE for Children. He was nominated by fellow agency representatives, and was approved by the United Way’s Board of Directors. “Michael was an integral part of the Speaker’s Bureau, having volunteered to speak on eight occasions to nearly 400 individuals,” said Mandi Wilton Davis, executive director. “He profoundly described his own experiences and successes, having been a recipient of CARE for Children’s services for many years. “He challenged those to whom he spoke to look deep within their hearts – and eventually their wallets – to consider how fortunate we all are to be accepted for who we are and what we accomplish,” Davis continued. “For me, personally, it was such an honor to work alongside Michael – and I will continue ...

Michael McLanahan, a senior at Bradford Area High School, served as the keynote speaker for the annual meeting of the CARE for Children Board of Directors held Thursday evening at the Bradford Club. The CARE for Children Board of Directors honored Zippo Manufacturing Company with the organization’s Community CARE Award and Mr. Howard Fesenmyer, Dr. Richard E. McDowell and Mr. Pete Buchheit with the CARE Volunteer Award. Mick Marshall, President of the CARE Board of Directors, presented Mr. Greg Booth, Zippo President and CEO, with the company’s award. “The board chose to honor Zippo Manufacturing Company for their long history of investing in CARE for Children, which we accept as a seal of approval,” said Marshall. “Whether it be the overall tournament sponsor for the CARE ‘fore’ Children Golf Tournament, the in-kind donations of product, the employee participation at special events and through memorial giving, or their support of the United Way, which benefits CARE.” Marshall wen...

Bradford Area High School Drama Club will present “Kill Me Deadly" (A Noir Comedy) by Bill Robens on March 29 and 30 at the school auditorium. “This show takes film noir, puts it on stage, and adds an element of humor. It is such a fun piece," said club advisor and show director Melissa Krepp. Curtain will rise at 7 p.m. each night. Tickets at $2 for students and $5 for adults are available from cast and crew, at the door, at the school office and at Tina’s Hallmark.
