  Nearly 30 years after its release, “Philadelphia” is still one of the most powerful films I've ever seen. Tom Hanks plays Andy, the high-powered lawyer who gets fired because he has AIDS, although the law firm's partners deny that, and claim he was fired because of poor performance and almost loosing a big client. His character doesn't go through a lot of emotional or mental changes, but the physical transformation from a fairly healthy-looking man to a man literally on his death bed is remarkable. Denzel Washington's character, Joe, changes the most, going from someone who was scared after learning he shook the hand of someone (Andy) who had AIDS, and being disgusted by gay men, to developing an affection and respect for Andy. Andy hires Joe, an “ambulance chaser,” to represent him in a lawsuit against the law firm when every other lawyer he contacted turned him down. The supporting cast is phenomenal. The day is finally here – Unstoppable is out on DVD. But that’s not the big news. Android handset owners will now be able to watch a digital copy of a Blu-ray film on their smartphones. The movie is the first with a Blu-ray Digital Copy that plays on Android, according to news release from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. As for rentals, Patrick Morrisroe of Family Video says people were lined up at the door this morning waiting to rent the movie. By Sandra Rhodes Visitor & Member Services Allegheny National Forest Visitors Bureau A touch of Hollywood glamour will be in Bradford, Pennsylvania, for two-night run for the opening of the new movie “Unstoppable.” The 20th Century movie, which features some scenes filmed on locations within McKean County in northcentral Pennsylvania, will open worldwide Friday, Nov. 12. Bradford will be the place to be with the movie shown on one end of Main Street and one of the actors on hand to greet guests on the other end. The movie features Academy Award-winner Denzel Washington, Chris Pine and Rosario Dawson. Inspired by actual events, the movie is an adrenaline rush fueled by director Tony Scott’s signature mark of propulsive action. It’s a story about ordinary people placed in extraordinary circumstances, according to information released by 20th Century Fox. The Route 120/155 intersection in Emporium will be closed Friday, September 18 from 9am to 3pm, as filming takes place for the movie "Unstoppable." Motorists should choose alternate routes around this closure. Drivers can follow PennDOT’s official detour that uses Routes 155, 120, 555 and 255 or they can choose alternate roads they prefer. Emergency response vehicles will be allowed to travel through the intersection closure. Drivers may also encounter intermittent traffic delays on Friday along Route 120 between East Allegheny Avenue and Britten Hill Road in Emporium. Closures and traffic delays will continue on area roads through October, as filming requires. PennDOT will issue travel advisories on those restrictions as necessary.

The effects of the filming of the movie "Unstoppable" in the region are already being felt. To accommodate some crew members, the movie's production company is footing part of the bill for renovations at the DeSoto Holiday House on South Avenue. Tarport Properties is planning to refurbish the entire facility. As for the movie, the pre-production crew has been in Bradford for several weeks spending money at a number of businesses. Star Denzel Washington and Director Tony Scott have also been staying in the area. The action movie is being filmed in Cameron County, which is also getting a much-need economic boost. This Dumpster behind the hotel caught on fire at about 4 o'clock this moring. It's holding old carpeting from the hotel, as well as other construction materials. Bradford Township firefighters were on the scene for about 2 hours.
