The Kiwanis Club of Bradford has pledged $10,000 to the Ashley Booth Griffin CARE for Children Center, continuing its collaborative efforts with the organization to support early learning and literacy initiatives. The contribution will fund a child-friendly reading area in the preschool classroom in the new facility, which will include a reading loft and an age-appropriate library. Members of Kiwanis, visited students at Rainbow Corner’s Preschool Fun Camp on Tuesday, taking some time to read to the kids, as well as present CARE with payment for half of the campaign pledge. Rainbow Corner Preschool, part of CARE for Children, will be hosting its annual Preschool Fun Camp from Monday, August 6 through Thursday, August 9 at its Russell Boulevard location. Children aged three to five years are welcome to participate in the camp, which will promote school readiness and summer play for preschoolers or children about to enter Kindergarten. There will be activities focusing specifically on nature, outdoor and structured play and socialization skills, and weather permitting there will be water play, as well. This year’s camp activities will be sponsored in part by the Zonta Club of Bradford. The children do not need to be enrolled at Rainbow Corner Preschool to attend the camp. There is a fee to attend the camp. Anyone interested should contact Kimberly Engstrom, Preschool Director, at the CARE office. Preschool Aides, Barbara McGarry and Janice Stiles, from Rainbow Corner Preschool at CARE for Children, have earned the Child Development Associate (CDA) credential in recognition of outstanding work with young children. The Council for Professional Recognition awards credentials to early childhood educators who demonstrate the ability to constructively work with young children in group settings. “CARE for Children places a premium on the quality of all our programs and invests in staff training and development to ensure quality initiatives. Our early learning programs provide an important developmental cornerstone for children and our aim is to provide an outstanding program with highly trained staff.” said Preschool Director Kimberly Engstrom, M.Ed. The process to obtain the credential was lengthy and included 9 months of classroom instruction, external course work, job evaluation and concluded with written and oral exams. Each year, Rainbow Corner hosts the camp, which promotes school readiness for preschoolers. Throughout the week, there were activities focusing on outdoor play, structured play and socialization. Rainbow Corner Preschool, a part of CARE for Children, is currently accepting registrations for the 2011-2012 school year. Children ages three to five years are welcome to take part in either a morning or afternoon session, and tuition assistance is available.
