One Dead, Two Hurt in Route 446 Crash

A woman is dead after her car collided with a tractor-trailer this morning on Route 446 near the Pennsylvania/New York State line.

State police say 26-year-old Lindsay Schmit of Grand Island, New York, was traveling north on Route 446 in Eldred Township, just north of the New York State line, at 6:15 a.m. when, for an unknown reason, her Chevy Malibu spun, crossed the center line and traveled into a tractor-trailer.

Schmit was pronounced dead at the scene by McKean County Coroner Mike Cahill. One passenger, 23-year-old Christopher Johnson, suffered severe injuries and is being treated at a Buffalo hospital. The second passenger, a toddler, was thrown from the car and is also being treated for severe injuries in a Buffalo hospital.

The truck driver, 53-year-old Kevin Padlo of Olean, was not hurt.

Kane-based state police were assisted by troopers from Montoursville and DuBois as well as the Eldred Township Fire Department and EMS, Portville Fire Department and EMS, Medic 10 from Olean, Medic 1 from Bradford, McKeirnan’s Towing and Portville Towing.

Who and what twisted mind would ever consider the story of such a tragic accident as "funny" in the reactions? You are obviously a very sick, sad, ignorant, twisted individual! Would it be funny if this was your sister, brother, daughter, etc.? So sick!!!

I agree! If there was a way for me to "unclick" on that, I would. I'm hoping the person who did click on it did it mistakenly and wlil click again to take it away.

My prayers are with Chris, Carter and Lindsay's family.
