By ANNE HOLLIDAY WESB/WBRR News Director Brad Mangel has been sworn in as Bradford’s newest city council member, replacing Rick Benton who died June 16. His term expires on the first Monday of January 2014. Mayor Tom Riel said Mangel, who has lived in Bradford his entire life except when he was in the military, probably attended more council meetings than any other member of the community in the last four or five years. “I’d like to thank the mayor and council for allowing me the opportunity to serve,” Mangel said. “I’d like to thank John (Peterson, city clerk) for administering the oath. Last but not least, I’d like to thank my wife for her support of my many endeavors, and especially this one. A science teacher at Salamanca Central School has pleaded not guilty to having sexual contact with an underage girl. 40-year-old Shane Riethmiller of Dunkirk is charged with one count of promoting sexual performance by a child, 8 counts of disseminating indecent material to a child and one count of sexual abuse. The grand jury indictment says the incidents happened between September and December of 2011 with a girl who is younger than 17. Although earlier reports said Riethmiller allegedly received nude photos of an underage girl on his cell phone and sent nude photos of himself back to her, a news release from the district attorney’s office on Tuesday says the sexual contact happened without the girl’s consent. At the time of Riethmiller’s arrest sheriff’s deputies said the name, age and address of the child will not be released. The case has been adjourned for motions. The Kinzua Quilters Guild is hosting a handmade quilt raffle at the Bradford Area Public Library for only $1.00 a chance. You can buy raffle tickets for the quilt now at the library. The winning ticket will be announced at the Ice Cream Social Fundraiser being held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the library. A Ridgway man is facing drug charges in Chautauqua County. Police charged 21-year-old Haydon Gangloff with criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana at about 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon in Sherman, New York. A Gowanda man is facing charges for allegedly assaulting a woman Friday night at her home. Police say 35-year-old Seneca Mohawk was arguing with a female acquaintance when it got physical and he allegedly threw her onto the floor, choked her and punched her in the head. A Gowanda man is facing charges for allegedly trying to rob a man and threatening to shoot him. Police say at around 11 o’clock Sunday night 26-year-old Bradley Gabel approached a man walking on Buffalo Street, grabbed him and demanded money. Gabel said he had a gun and a knife and allegedly threatened to shoot and stab the victim if he didn’t give him money. The victim was able to break free and call police. When police arrived, Gabel allegedly started fighting with them. He was charged with attempted robbery, unlawful imprisonment, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, and then released on his own recognizance. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

A Bradford man is in jail for allegedly trying to sell jewelry stolen in two separate burglaries. Court records say 26-year-old John Musolino sold a onyx gold ring to Allegany Arsenal on August 25. The ring had been stolen from a South Avenue apartment on August 24. On September 27 Musolino allegedly tried to sell gold rings and a gold pendant stolen from an Edna Avenue house earlier that day. A Mount Jewett man is accused of having a sexual relationship with a teenager. 26-year-old Justin Cornelius allegedly started having sex with the 14-year-old in March, but had been talking to, hugging and kissing her since September of last year, according to papers filed in District Judge Bill Todd’s office. On July 2 the girl’s mother contacted police after she found graphic text messages describing a sexual relationship between her daughter and Cornelius. A fire that destroyed a pull-behind camper trailer in Potter County Monday night has been ruled arson. State Police Fire Marshal David Surra says the camper was parked in the pull-off along the south side of Route 6 in Pike Township just west of the Tioga County line when it was intentionally set on fire at around 10:30 last night. All identification including the plate and VIN number were removed, so police do not know who owned the camper. Damage is estimated at $3,000. No one was hurt. A 16-year-old Olean girl will spend the next five years behind bars for a attacking another girl with a knife in November. Prosecutors say Destiny Ballaus slashed Kaylee O’Connell’s face with the knife during a fight in Oak Hill Park. They believe O’Connell was sticking up for a friend, who was being bullied online. A Mayville woman is facing charges after her toddler was found wandering through a neighborhood alone twice in the same day. At around 10:30 a.m. on July 5 the 3-year-old was found wandering in the neighborhood of Chautauqua Street in Mayville. Sheriff’s deputies returned the child to his mother. Later that day the same child was found wandering in the same neighborhood. Sheriff’s deputies then charged 21-year-old Clarissa Dickey with endangering the welfare of a child. A Cattaraugus man is facing charges for cutting down a tree that damaged power lines. Sheriff’s deputies say 32-year-old Matthew Glow cut down the large tree that caused extensive damage to National Grid power lines and poles back on June 30. A Cattaraugus woman is facing charges for hitting an Amish buggy while she was driving while intoxicated Monday night on Leon Road in the Town of New Albion. Sheriff’s deputies say 46-year-old Andrea McGlew failed several field sobriety tests and is scheduled to appear in court on August 21. No one was hurt in the accident. A Galeton man is charged with criminal mischief after allegedly breaking glass on a door at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital. Police say 19-year-old Joshua Yonkin was leaving the building at 6 a.m. on July 5 when he broke a section of glass in the exterior emergency room door. The cost of repair is $673. A North Bingham man is accused of improperly using a gas card belonging to Besecker and Coss. Sheriff’s deputies say 30-year-old Chad Hicks used the card between February 26 and April 28, and rang up nearly $1,500 worth of gas purchases for his personal use. A Randolph woman is dead following an accident at just before 7 o’clock Monday night in Steamburg. Sheriff’s deputies say 29-year-old Anastasia Mosher was north on West Perimeter Road when her vehicle went off the road, hit a utility pole then careened down an embankment. Mosher was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger, 27-year-old Taylor Darcy, was flown to UPMC Hamot with possible internal injuries. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947
