HARRISBURG, PA (November 13, 2012) —The Dauphin County Court Administrator’s Office announced today that the preliminary hearing on recently-filed charges against Timothy M. Curley, Gary C. Schultz, and Graham B. Spanier has been scheduled for Thursday, December 13, 2012, at 9:00 a.m., in Courtroom 1 of the Dauphin County Courthouse, Harrisburg, PA. Magisterial District Judge William C. Wenner will preside. If necessary, the hearing will continue on Friday, December 14, 2012. All three defendants were administrators at The Pennsylvania State University. Curley, former athletic director; Schultz, retired senior vice president; and Spanier, former president, are charged with perjury, endangering welfare of children, obstructing administration of law, failure to report, and criminal conspiracy related to sexual assault allegations against former PSU defensive coach Jerry Sandusky. Jerry Sandusky's lawyers are asking for a couple more weeks to file briefs in support of his effort to have his convictions on child sex abuse charges overturned. Defense attorney Joe Amendola today asked Judge John Cleland for the extension, saying lead appeals lawyer Norris Gelman recently had a heart attack and open-heart surgery, and could not start work on the case until midi-October. Sandusky is serving a 30- to 60-year prison sentence, which he says is excessive. Sandusky also wants a new trial if the convictions are not overturned, saying hearsay evidence was improperly allowed and there wasn’t enough other evidence for convictions. Patricia A. Terwilliger, 81, formerly of Bradford and Fairview, PA, passed away Monday, November 5, 2012, in Chambersburg while in the care of her niece Christine Martin. Born August 4, 1931, in Bradford she was a daughter of the late Frank and Cecelia (McDermott) Terwilliger. She was a 1949 graduate of St. Bernard School. She later worked at Holy Cross Church in Fairview for Father Fred Reily. Surviving is a sister, Sister Marilyn Terwilliger, of SSJ of Erie and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers William, Francis, James, Richard and John Terwilliger, and a sister Jean Justice. At Ms. Terwilliger request there will be no public visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date and time to be announced at St. Bernard Church. Burial will be in St Bernard Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc. Memorials if desired may be made to St. Bernard Church, P.O. Box 2394...

State College - The sunny and warm weather that encompassed much of the East the past several days has been erased by a cold front which is sweeping through the region. Temperatures will generally be 20-30 degrees colder compared to Monday's highs. With a gusty breeze factored in, it will feel even colder on Tuesday. As the cold front moved through some locations early Tuesday, there were dramatic drops in temperature over a very short amount of time. In Boston, the temperature dropped from 64 to 54 in less than 10 minutes Tuesday morning. Some snow showers were even triggered downwind of the Great Lakes and on the back edge of rain along the cold front. The temperatures on Tuesday will be closer to normal for this time of year. The air mass coming in behind the aforementioned front is modifying as it moves eastward. Dry weather will also take hold once again with high pressure building in behind the departing front. Indianapolis, Indiana - Captain Steve Nigrelli of the New York State Police has been awarded the 2012 John Carion "Unsung Hero" award at the International Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) Conference. This award recognizes outstanding individuals who have contributed to the success of their local and state Special Olympics programs. Nigrelli has been involved with Special Olympics New York and the Law Enforcement Torch Run for more than 19 years. He is the current New York State Torch Run Director (2010 to present), a volunteer based position, elected by his peers and served before this as the Western Regional Director from 2006 to 2010. And they got a visit from some former presidents of the United States, too. City of Bradford Police officer Heil “Butch” Bartlett, who is also the school resource officer, explained that before Columbine schools really didn’t have lockdown procedures. After that, he said, schools across the country had to “jump into action” and started adopting lockdown procedures that the prison system used. In the years following Columbine, he said, they learned that normal lockdown procedures from the prison system doesn’t prevent a shooter, or active threat, from getting into the room, so police and schools started changing things. “I’m very proud to say that we’re probably a lot more proactive that any school in the entire area, probably even in the region,” Bartlett said. Police have identified one of the people who drowned in the Allegheny Reservoir Sunday, but say the second person who was in the canoe is still missing. 62-year-old Terry Lee Snyder of Kane died after the canoe tipped over at around 11:30 Sunday morning as she was fishing near the Red Bridge Recreational Area. Rescue crews continued their search for the second person today, and police say the search and investigation are continuing. The Ludlow and Kane fire departments, Search and Rescue troopers and the Glade Township Rescue Team are conducting the search. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Division of Communication and the Arts will present Henrik Ibsen’s “An Enemy of the People” Nov. 15-18 in Blaisdell Hall. Harrisburg – Governor Tom Corbett today ceremonially signed seven pieces of legislation that will benefit Pennsylvania’s military veterans and Pennsylvania National Guard. “Today is about honoring a debt; a debt earned in blood and sacrifice,” Corbett said. “These bills are various in their goals. But they share the single purpose of repaying part of the debt we owe to those who have guarded our freedom and place their very lives between us and our enemies.’’ The ceremony was held this morning, nationally observed as Veterans Day, at the Pennsylvania National Guard’s Keystone Conference Center at Fort Indiantown Gap. Governor Corbett is himself a veteran, having served nearly 14 years in the National Guard. A State Police Fire Marshal is still trying to determine the cause of a fire that that did about a quarter of million dollars’ worth of damage to a building at Allegheny Coatings on River Road in Ridgway Saturday. The steel frame industrial building was unoccupied at around noon, when the fire was reported. The fire started in a second floor office area. No one was hurt and there are no suspicious circumstances. A Hazmat team was on the scene, and determined there was no environmental damage because the fire was contained before an chemicals could be released. Allegheny Coatings remains open for business. The Interfaith Thanksgiving Service will be held on Monday, November 19, at 7:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 54 East Corydon St., Bradford. This year’s theme is “What Does the Lord Require of You?,” and will feature speakers from area churches. Participating speakers will include Dr. Gautam Mukerjee, Dr. Javed Akhtar, Mr. Grant Nichols, and Rev. Lee Beckes, all representing various faiths. This annual event has become an inspirational service during the approaching Thanksgiving time of year with significant messages being shared. A special choir presentation will be performed by members of area churches. Regina Gabriel, director of music and organist of the First Presbyterian Church, will be the organist. The search for a missing canoeist resumed today on the Allegheny Reservoir, near the Red Bridge Recreational Area. The McKean County Dive and Rescue team recovered the body of a woman Sunday afternoon after a canoe tipped over sending two people into the water. The team searched for a man in the water until dark Sunday. Dive and Rescue returned to the reservoir this morning at day break and resumed their search for the missing man. On November 10, 2012, the City of Bradford Police Department with the assistance of Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, and the City of Erie Police arrested three individuals in connection with the sale and possession of approximately one pound of C4 explosive. The City of Bradford Police Department began this investigation in the days prior when information was obtained from a confidential informant that persons were attempting to sell the explosives. Bradford Police confirmed the information and contacted the ATF for assistance. The Bradford City Police and ATF arranged a controlled purchase of the explosive using the confidential informant. On 11-10-12 at approximately 1126 hrs, Bradford City Police with the assistance of the ATF and Erie City Bomb Squad arrested Jarred D. We still have a few more bird stockings on our local game lands. Here are some tips and thoughts I had on this fall's hunting season: 1. Don't overwork your dog. Give them plenty of time to recover and rest between hunting trips. Most dog owners I talk with don't feed their dog before they run but after. This will help keep the dog from overheating and cramping up. It's too late now but I hope you kept you and your dog in good physical shape in the off season. Always carry water for you and the dog. I like to hunt from pond to pond to be sure the dogs can drink and cool off if needed. 2. Tailgate check your dog after the hunt. I put the dogs in the truck and run my hands over them. It's important to pay attention to the eyes, nose, between the toes – even the ear canal and mouth. Putting...

Harrisburg – Governor Tom Corbett on Friday announced that PennDOT is launching two voluntary programs aimed at saving the lives of Pennsylvanians in emergency situations – the Yellow Dot and Emergency Contact Information programs. “Both of these programs speak for people when they can’t speak for themselves, so medical concerns can be addressed and contacts can be reached as quickly as possible,” Corbett said. "When someone is in a crash or they find themselves in an emergency situation, it’s critical that emergency responders quickly find out as much as they can about the victim.” Participants in the Yellow Dot program fill out the program form with their emergency contact, medical contact and medical information, insert it in the program’s folder and then place it in their vehicle’s glove compartment. A 17-year-old Genesee boy is facing felony charges. Police say the boy stole items from a Bingham Center Road home that he thought were scrap, and then sold them. The items were actually valued at more than $2,000. The boy will be charged with theft and receiving stolen property. The case will be handled by the Potter County Juvenile Probation office.
