Firefighter Contract Talks Delayed
Contract talks between the City of Olean and its firefighters have been delayed because the state-appointed mediator died. Negotiations broke off in January when the two sides couldn't agree on terms of a new contract. The main sticking point is the number of firefighters per shift. Neither Mayor David Carucci nor firefighters' union president Captain James Bennett know when a new mediator will be assigned. The last three-year contract expired May 31, but firefighters are required by law to work under the old contract until they get a new one.
