Pirate Parrot Cruisin' for a Cure

The Pittsburgh Pirates and Pirates Charities announced today that the Pirate Parrot, in partnership with Mosites Motorsports, will embark on a 350-mile charity "Cruise for a Cure" across the state of Pennsylvania from Monday, June 28 through Wednesday, June 30 to help raise funds and awareness for Prostate Cancer research. The Parrot will leave Philadelphia on Monday and arrive in Pittsburgh on Wednesday night, just in time for the beginning of the Pirates and Phillies series at PNC Park, which begins on Thursday, July 1.

Fans can make donations to the "Cruise for a Cure" by visiting www.pirates.com/cruise to help the Parrot raise money for Prostate Cancer research. Donations will be accepted as a one-time flat donation or on a permile pledge basis. All funds will be raised through Pirates Charities and then donated directly to the Western Pennsylvania Prostate Cancer Foundation.

In addition to making donations, fans can visit pirates.com/cruise to view the Parrot's planned route across the state, including specific roadways and stops, and, once the cruise begins, fans will be able to view updated video highlights of his trip.

Two stops have already been scheduled. The Parrot will make stops on Monday, June 28 in State College, home of the Pirates class-A affiliate State College Spikes and Tuesday, June 29 in Altoona, home of the Pirates double-A affiliate Altoona Curve.

Before getting back on the road on Tuesday, the Parrot will attend an event at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, home of the Spikes, in State College from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Then, once arriving in Altoona on Tuesday evening, the Parrot will attend a similar event, spearheaded by the Altoona Curve, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Altoona Giant Eagle. At both stops, fans will have the opportunity to get autographs from Pirates alumni, take pictures with the Parrot on his motorcycle and make donations to his fight against Prostate Cancer.

Continue to visit pirates.com/cruise for information on additional stops as it becomes available.

The Parrot will ride a Can-am Spyder motorcycle, which has been donated by Mosites Motorsports specifically for the Parrot's trek across the state.
