Jefferson County Doctor Killed in Crash

A prominent Jefferson County doctor is dead after his bicycle collided with a car Thursday morning in Sandy Township.

Police say Dr. Albert Varacallo, Jr. of DuBois was wearing a helmet when his bike was hit by a car driven by 28-year-old Scott Sago of Kersey.

Varacallo was thrown from the bike. He was flown to Altoona Hospital, where he later died.

He operated a family practice in Reynoldsville for many years.

Police say they aren't sure whether charges will be filed.

Two Arrested on Drug Charges

Two people were arrested on drug charges after state police got a report about unauthorized use of a vehicle. Troopers found the vehicle in Randolph on Wednesday and arrested the driver, 31-year-old Bridget Bardo of Conewango, for aggravated unlicensed operation and criminal possession of a controlled substance. She was released on her own recognizance and scheduled to appear in Town of Randolph Court. Her passenger, 28-year-old Andrew Jaquish of Salamanca, was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.
