William Ayers
William H. Ayers, 81, of 28 Patterson Lane, Bradford, passed away Saturday, January 14th, 2012 at Hamot Medical Center in Erie.
Born September 24, 1930, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Herbert and Florence (Wormer) Ayers.
On November 13, 1954 in the First Church of the Nazarene he married Beverly (Gardner) Ayers who survives.
Mr. Ayers attended Bradford High School. After high school he enlisted in the United States Navy on October 28,1947, served during the Korean War, and was honorably discharge October 13, 1952. Mr. Ayers had been employed at Bell Aircraft, and then as a league leader in the maintenance department at Georgia Pacific from where he retired.
He was a past member of the Sportsman Club, American Legion, VFW and the former Bradford Moose Lodge. He loved playing cards with his family. Taking walks with his dog and being outside to enjoy the beauty of the area. One of his favorite pastimes was having coffee with his buddies and panning for gold.
Mr. Ayers won the Job Case look-alike contest held on July 21, 2008, at the Case Collectors Appreciation Weekend.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 56 years, are two daughters, Debra (Joseph) McAdams of Camarillo, CA, and Jan (Alan) Bean of Bradford, four grandchildren; Jessica McAdams, Joseph McAdams, III, Brett VanGuilder and Ryan VanGuilder, one sister, Ruth Ayers Gabriel of Olean, one brother, Hugh Ayers of Bradford, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers; Leslie E. Ayers, Lewis A. Ayers and Herbert Ayers, Jr. and a sister Gertrude Rosenhoover.
Family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, January 18, 2001, from 7:00 to 9:00pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc., South Ave., where funeral and committal services will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, January 19th, with Rev. Tom Verner, pastor of the First Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Clermont Cemetery.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
