Father, Son Arrested for Arson

A father and son from Ridgway are charged with arson – and the father is also charged with attempted homicide – in connection to two Elk County fires.

54-year-old Francis “Tony” Milliard was picked today on felony arrest warrants for multiple counts of arson, criminal mischief and recklessly endangering another person relating to the May 30 fire at the Ridgway home of 69-year-old Pauline Smith, who suffered minor injuries in the blaze.

29-year-old Anthony Milliard was also charged in that case.

They were also charged in connection to a fire on December 4, 2008, in Johnsonburg.

Anthony Milliard allegedly poured a substantial amount of gasoline in the house at 115 First Avenue and ignited the fire, according to papers filed in District Judge Tony King’s office.

During a meeting with police in April he said the ignition “actually blew him off of the porch.”

Also during the meeting that Milliard requested he told police he started the fire at the request of his father, so he could collect insurance money for the loss.

The attempted homicide charged stems from an incident on Elk Avenue in Ridgway on June 23, 2011.

Both men are in Elk County Prison.

No other arrests have been made in connection with the recent string of arson fires in the county.
