Man Charged for Hitting Woman with Car

A man has been arrested for hitting a St. Marys woman with his car and then leaving the scene.

41-year-old Dean Schatz is charged with aggravated assault by vehicle, accidents involving death or personal injury, duty to give information and render aid, making false reports to law enforcement and tampering with evidence.

Police say on July 28 at 3:15 a.m. Schatz hit 21-year-old Natasha Schmitz while she was standing near the side of Washington Road. She had to be taken to Altoona Regional Hospital for treatment of multiple injuries.

The false reports and tampering with evidence charges stem from Schatz reporting the vehicle stolen.

He was arraigned before District Judge Mark Jacob and released on $5,000 bail.
