ARG Gets State Grant Money

American Refining Group will be sharing in more than $18 million in state grant money aimed at repairing rail lines across Pennsylvania.

ARG will be getting $1.9 million to rehabilitate 3,700 feet of track and add new loading racks for the refinery.

According to ARG officials, the project will allow the company to safely handle an estimated 10,000 rail cars, create five jobs and retain more than 300 jobs. It also will help remove 40,000 trucks from state and local highways.

“ARG is the country’s oldest continuously operated oil refinery, but more importantly it is a vital part of our local economy,” said State Representative Marty Causer. “The demand for its Pennsylvania grade crude oil is on the rise, and this expansion of ARG’s infrastructure will allow the company to better meet that demand.”

“Pennsylvania has the highest number of short-rail lines in the country, which helps keep goods moving and our economy going,” Governor Tom Corbett said. “When we invest in these rail projects, we help ensure a solid infrastructure is in place to support the jobs relying on these services.”

The grants are administered by PennDOT’s Bureau of Rail Freight, Ports and Waterways.
