'Follow the Star' Creche Walk
Scheduled at St. Bonaventure

The Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at St. Bonaventure University invites the campus and community to “follow the star” in the first-ever campus crèche walk to be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7.

The Quick Center’s annual display of its impressive collection of crèches from around the world is usually housed in one location, inside the arts center. This year, however, the collection will be displayed at three locations on campus: in the Quick Center’s Branch Gallery, the University Chapel, and the Thomas Merton Center.

On Friday, Dec. 7, campus and community residents are invited to participate in the “Follow the Star Crèche Walk,” a walking tour of each display site accompanied by time for spiritual reflection. The event is open to all at no charge.

Guests are invited to gather at the Quick Center at 3 p.m. that day and view the display in the Branch Gallery. They will then proceed to the University Chapel to view the crèches on display in the chapel’s side altars. Fr. Francis Di Spigno, O.F.M, executive director of Faith Formation, Worship and Ministry at St. Bonaventure, will give reflections, and the University Brass Ensemble will play festive holiday music.

The group will then proceed to the Thomas Merton Center, home of University Ministries, to view crèches on display there. Sr. Margaret Carney, O.S.F., university president, will give reflections and the University Chamber Singers will sing Christmas carols.

Afterward, all are invited to return to The Quick Center for hot cider.

“I hope many people will join as a community to take two hours off from the busy holiday preparations and reflect on the joy of Christmas and view the crèches from around the world,” said Ludwig Brunner, the center’s interim executive director. “Visitors will also get the chance to see The Quick Center’s tall Christmas tree decorated with the theme ‘Celebrate New York!’”

The Quick Center is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The center will be closed over the Christmas holiday, from Dec. 24 to Jan. 2.

Galleries are open to the public year round at no charge. For more information, visit The Quick Center at www.sbu.edu/quickcenter.
