Zippo Unveils Set of Lighters for
Auction at 5th Annual Derby Gala

This year we have a dual set of lighters to auction for BAPL’s 5th Annual Derby Gala event to be held on May 4, 2013. We will begin accepting silent bids immediately with the auction concluding LIVE the evening of May 4.

This magnificent contribution from ZIPPO speaks elegance and Kentucky Derby like never before. The deep richness of black onyx meets with gold inlay and venetian heritage.

Our Signature BAPL Derby horse is gold inlay on a black onyx lighter, leading the way to the finish line. The other racing horses are a combination of laser engraving, topped off with rotary engraving – creating a dimensional movement of the horses racing around the track. The back of the lighters bring the elegance of the Churchill Down steeples with the rapidly moving horses.

The sides of the lighters are gold inlay roses with a differing stem depth engraving to bring more vividness to the roses.

The processes completed on these lighters are extraordinarily unique, because they cannot be replicated on the manufacturing line. This type of engraving is particularly challenging on our Black Onyx lighter due to the delicate finish. Our Zippo engineers, technicians, and graphic specialists developed an EXCLUSIVE piece that can only be found once a year at the Bradford Area Public Library’s Derby Gala.

The background is a venetian pattern, a favorite of Mr. George Duke’s. (Interesting fact, the venetian pattern will be celebrating its 40th year in the product line for Zippo in 2014.) Furthermore, this collection boasts gold flash inserts that add stunning beauty to the lighters when opened.

The lighters are framed with this year’s Derby Gala ticket that is personally autographed by Mr. George B. Duke, Chairman of the Board of Zippo Manufacturing Company. It is further enhanced by an engraved gold plaque with the year 2013 and the Derby Gala logo.
