New Penalty for Texting while Driving in NY
If you get caught texting and driving in New York the penalty will now be five points off your driver’s license instead of three.
During a news conference today, Governor Andrew Cuomo said the penalty applies to any kind of cellphone activity while driving.
The change goes into effect Saturday.
Cuomo is also proposing legislation that would impose tougher sanctions against probationary and junior drivers for texting.
