Sexual Predator Scheduled for Sentencing
The Ashville, New York, man who tried to lure young Warren County girls into having sex with him is scheduled for sentencing today in federal court in Erie.
42-year-old David Lopus pleaded guilty in January to interstate travel to have sex with a minor. In May of 2011 he tried to lure a girl into his vehicle near a trailer park in Conewango Township. In June of 2011 he tried luring an 11-year-old girl into a portable toilet near the Sugar Grove Elementary School playground.
Lopus was arrested in a homeless shelter in Ohio shortly after the second incident. Although the law provides for a total sentence of 90 years in prison, as part of the plea agreement, Lopus will spend only 21 years in prison, and then will be on parole for the rest of his life.
