Oil Well Accident Claims Life of Elderly Man

A 79-year-old Bolivar, New York, man is dead after an industrial accident Wednesday afternoon in the Town of Andover.

State police say Douglas Wightman was servicing a hydraulic oil rig with three other people at just before 4 p.m. when steel pulleys and guidelines on top of the rig’s mast snapped, fell about 40 feet and hit him.

Wightman was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy will be performed at the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office in Rochester.

Two Arrested on Drug Charges

Two people were arrested on drug charges after state police got a report about unauthorized use of a vehicle. Troopers found the vehicle in Randolph on Wednesday and arrested the driver, 31-year-old Bridget Bardo of Conewango, for aggravated unlicensed operation and criminal possession of a controlled substance. She was released on her own recognizance and scheduled to appear in Town of Randolph Court. Her passenger, 28-year-old Andrew Jaquish of Salamanca, was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.
