Artist Ellen Steinfeld to Give Talk About Exhibition at St. Bonaventure's Quick Center

Sculptor and painter Ellen Steinfeld, whose work is on exhibition at St. Bonaventure University’s Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts, will give a talk at the center at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17.

Steinfeld will talk about the exhibit, “Explorations,” which features various pieces from her advanced repertoire of imagery and techniques, including abstracted, painted “plates,” sculpture and handmade paper pieces. She will also show slides of other work.

The talk is free and open to the all. Refreshments will be served.

Steinfeld has had a long presence in Western New York, and through exhibitions, public installations and commissions, has become known throughout North America. She has received numerous large-scale public and private commissions including a monumental 18-foot steel sculpture for the atrium of Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo and a commission to design 16 large stained glass windows for Christ Church in Detroit.

Sculpture installations in public spaces, such as the Buffalo Niagara International Airport, have greeted thousands of residents and travelers. Selected by Absolut Vodka to represent New York state, she produced a design that reached a global market through prominent publications in a campaign that raised money for AIDS research. Works in various media have been selected and incorporated into public spaces including schools, hotels, hospitals, museums, airports, stadiums and corporate collections.

Steinfeld’s work has been exhibited in museums and galleries in more than 26 solo exhibitions and included in more than 90 group exhibitions in the United States and Canada. Her works are in many permanent collections including those of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, the Castellani Museum, the Burchfield-Penney Museum, the Washington State Art in Public Places Collection, the State of Florida Art in Public Buildings Collection and the New York State Art Museum in Albany.

She has won many national awards as well as fellowships from New York state’s Community Arts Partnership and the New York State Council on the Arts. She has been a visiting artist, lecturer and teacher at several universities, and is the subject of two documentary films.

The exhibition is open until Dec 1.
