Man Charged with Risking a Catastrophe
Waives Preliminary Hearing

A Bradford man whose truck crashed into a utility pole and caused a blackout in part of the city has waived his preliminary hearing.

Police say at just before midnight on September 13 31-year-old John-Jay Rhodes crashed his truck at Forman Street and the off-ramp of Route 219, hitting a utility pole that held high voltage lines. The wires were then exposed, starting a fire, and several traffic lights were disabled in the downtown area.

Rhodes told police he wasn’t driving the truck, but a witness to the crash said he pulled Rhodes from the driver’s seat. Besides a felony count of risking a catastrophe, he is charged with misdemeanor counts of DUI and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, as well as a number of traffic violations.

A Derrick City man is accused of having sex with a 13-year-old girl. 19-year-old Richie Cromley is charged with statutory sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor and criminal solicitation on a computer of a sex act with a child. Two Arrested on Drug Charges

Two people were arrested on drug charges after state police got a report about unauthorized use of a vehicle. Troopers found the vehicle in Randolph on Wednesday and arrested the driver, 31-year-old Bridget Bardo of Conewango, for aggravated unlicensed operation and criminal possession of a controlled substance. She was released on her own recognizance and scheduled to appear in Town of Randolph Court. Her passenger, 28-year-old Andrew Jaquish of Salamanca, was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.
